JNTUH scraps 12000 seats through TSEAMCET

Updated On - March 3rd 2017By - Kritika Gupta

As per JNTU Hyderabad’s recent notification, TSEAMCET 2017 Seat Intake has been reduced by 12,000. Less PG (post-graduate) and UG (Undergraduate) students will get seats in colleges affiliated to JNTU Hyderabad for upcoming academic year. According to the official notification, this has happened due to less enrolment of students and also because some engineering colleges have failed to get required faculty according to the norms.

Around 7000 seats (out of 12000) are of B.Tech in private engineering colleges. Due to this, over 80 colleges have asked for permission to close down a few courses (Electrical, mining, metallurgy etc.) completely. Some colleges tried to file a petition to be exempted from the new rule but were rejected by JNTU. So, around 300 PG (M.Tech) AND UG (B.Tech) courses will be terminated by colleges. Some colleges have reduced intake from 180 to 120. According to Kota Sudhir, MBA Colleges association president, one of the main reasons of decrease the seat intake is due to financial troubles.

IN 2016, B.Tech almost 90,000 seats for TSEAMCET were made available for management quota in government and private colleges as these seats were not filled in the first counseling. The Director of Technical Education, M.V. Reddy, said that around 8,000 candidates, in 2016, were not allotted seats in engineering courses merely because most of them filled only a few options and that negated their chances. He said 100 colleges secured 100 per cent admissions and two colleges could not get even a single admission while three colleges got admissions in single digits. Management quota seats are likely to be reduced to 10,000 seats for the coming academic year.

JNTU had instructed colleges to seek affiliation for the next academic year by February 25, 2017. But the date has now been extended to March 4, 2017.
