Aadhaar Card is NOT Mandatory for NEET 2019

CBSE released the official notification for NEET 2019 on February 8 at The coordinating body has made several changes in the eligibility criteria making Aadhaar Card NOT mandatory to apply for NEET. 

  • At the time of filling the form and uploading of documents as per the guidelines, candidates have to enter their Aadhaar Card details. In case of any mismatch, the application will be rejected.   
  • Nearly 12 lac aspirants will applied online for NEET 2019, scheduled for May 5, 2019.
  • NEET Result is declared one month after the exam takes place, i.e. on June 5, 2019. 

Supreme Court directed the CBSE not to make Aadhaar number mandatory for enrolment of students appearing in NEET 2019 and other all-India exams. A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra directed the CBSE to upload the information on their website.

Earlier in the day, UIDAI had told the apex court that it has not authorised CBSE to mandatorily take the Aadhaar number of students to get themselves enrolled for appearing in NEET 2019 examination.

NEET 2019 New Changes Introduced –

  • This time adhaar card was not mandatory to fill the NEET application form.
  • Candidates can fill application by mentioning alternative Identification Number such as Ration Card, Passport, Bank Account No. or other valid Government ID (such as Driving License, Voter ID etc.).
  • Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have joined 15% All India Quota scheme. Candidates of these states need not to submit Self Declaration form now. Candidates from J&K state only, have to submit self declaration form for seats under 15% All India Quota.
  • Indian students who wish to pursue MBBS/BDS from a foreign Medical Institute, they have to qualify NEET (UG) examination.
  • The attempt limit has been removed from 2019. Now, candidates may attempt the NEET exam maximum times.
  • NIOS or State Open School or private candidate are not eligible for NEET 2019 exam (Final decision Pending).
  • There will be one set for question paper in all languages.
  • As per officials the exam will be bilingual (except language chosen in English).

Aadhaar Card linking for NEET 2019

While filling in the application form, one must enter their 12-digit UID number. Earlier, the verification and attendance were made individually and manually by matching faces with NEET admit card. Now, the entire process will be automated through a biometric attendance system. During the exam, fingerprints of the candidates can be collected and matched with the one stored with the Aadhaar server.

Officials welcome the change and opportunity to make the exams tech-savvy. “It takes just a few minutes to verify whether he or she is the right candidate or not. It’s easy and safe,” said an official.

Another parallel being drawn is the organizing authority. Like JEE-Main, both NEET and NET are being conducted by CBSE and replicating the success should not be a problem. Candidates who are still without their Aadhaar card need not fret. The card can be applied for before filling out the forms for examination, in such case the 28-digit Aadhaar registration receipt will be used for validation.

Utility of NEET 2019 Aadhar Card

To make the entire process of NEET 2019 smooth, CBSE has made the document mandatory for registration and verification purposes. In a recent notification published at, the conducting body listed points following the news of making Aadhar Card mandatory.

  • Aadhaar card for NEET applicants will result in accuracy of the applicants’ details.
  • It will help in ascertaining the identity of applicants at examination centers in a hassle-free manner. Check NEET Exam Centers
  • Aadhaar Card will prevent the need for producing multiple documents to prove one’s identity.
  • The provisions of the Aadhaar Act and Regulations permits the use of Aadhaar number for establishing the identity of an individual for any purpose pursuant to any law or any contract to this effect.

What if you don't have Aadhaar Card?

CBSE has made provisions for all types of medical aspirants in case of Aadhaar card. They are as follows:

  • Applicants who are in possession of Aadhaar – enter Aadhaar number, name, date of birth and gender in NEET application form
  • Applicants not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, have to make application for Aadhaar enrolment in case he/she is entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per government norms. Visit any Aadhaar enrolment center (list available at to get enrolled for the document.
  • Applicants who are not having Aadhaar, CBSE has specially set up facilitation centers in each exam city for the purpose of Aadhaar enrolment. The list of the facilitation center is available on
  • Applicants who have enrolled for Aadhaar and have not received Aadhaar, have to enter 28 digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID as mentioned in the enrollement slip.
  • In case Aadhaar enrolment facility is not available at the facilitation centres, submit a request for Aadhaar enrolment. The facilitation centre will issue a registration number to such applicants. The number should be entered at the time of filling online application form for NEET 2019.

CBSE has specially set up facilitation centers for assistance of candidates without Aadhar Card and other queries. The list of NEET Facilitation Centres is available at The centers provide services and charge some minimal account. However, queries related to Aadhaar card will not be charged any amount. Q: I have recently submitted the request for updation in Aadhaar details and unable to apply with the updated Aadhaar Card Details, how can I submit the application form?

Ans. Such candidates have to apply for NEET UG by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar center after submitting updation request. Failing to do so will result in rejection of the application. 

Q: What are the reasons for Aadhaar authentication failure in the first step of application submission?

Ans. The reasons for the failure are listed below:

a. Candidate has not entered the details exactly same as mentioned on their Aadhaar card

Verify all the details entered and check if they are exactly same as mentioned on their Aadhaar card.

b. Candidate’s biometric is not updated in Aadhaar

Such candidates should submit a correction request at Aadhaar centre for biometric updation and apply for NEET by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request.

Q: The date of birth is not fully or incorrectly mentioned in Aadhaar card. What should I do?

Ans. Such candidates should submit a correction request at the centre and apply for NEET by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request.

Q: The name of candidate in Aadhaar in not exactly same as in school records. What should be done?

Ans. Such candidates should submit a correction request at Aadhaar centre and apply for NEET UG by entering 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID/UR No. (Including slash) printed on the slip issued by aadhaar centre after submitting updation request. OR

Such candidates should fill the form of NEET with old details in Aadhaar card and thereafter submit a correction request at centre. The updated details in Aadhaar may be corrected in the exam at later stage by the process which will be notified in due course of time.

Q: The name of father/ mother is not same as in school records. The address mentioned in Aadhaar has been changed due to transfer or some other reason.

Ans. These particular are not being matched with Aadhaar data, candidates should correctly fill these particulars as per school records. The present/ permanent address may also be filled accordingly since CBSE do not send any communication on the candidates’ address.

Q: How can candidates of Assam/J&K/Meghalaya having no Aadhaar Card apply for NEET 2019?

Ans. Candidates who have passed or appearing in Class XII examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya need to enter the passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number provided. 

Q: Can candidates of Assam/ J&K/ Meghalaya having Aadhaar Card choose Exam Centre across India in NEET?

Ans. Candidates who have passed or appearing in Class XII examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya having Aadhaar Card can choose the Examination Centre across India. Candidate must ensure that Name, date of birth & gender in online application for NEET-UG must be same in X,XII Certificate/Marksheet and Aadhaar Card details for the purpose of his/her identity and authentication.

Q: Can candidates outside India (PIO/OCI/NRI) apply for NEET 2019 without Aadhaar?

Ans. These candidates outside India can apply for the examination by providing their Passport details.

Q: What is the reason for the introduction of Aadhaar Card in NEET 2019?

Ans. The plan to link NEET 2019 to Aadhaar is made with an aim for a transparent and hassle-free process. This could check fraud of identity theft during entrance examinations, by eradicating cases of impersonation.

Q: I am a ward of a single parent and the name of my father is not mentioned on my Aadhar Card?

Ans. If your father’s name column is blank in the document, you need to type XXXX in your NEET Application Form.

Q. I am a citizen of Nepal and do not have an Aadhaar Number or Passport Number. How to apply online for NEET?

Ans. You can use any Government ID proof. Make sure that the ID proof carries your photograph and also make sure it is a valid ID.
