Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar offers admission to prominent candidates to MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) through NEET. How to get Admission in Government Medical College, Amritsar?

Government Medical College, Amritsar is a the leading institution for medical education in the state of Punjab. The college has recently been permitted to fill 200 seats instead of 150 to MBBS. The course structure is set according to the guidelines provided by MCI. The admission to MBBS course in this college is completely on the basis of NEET.

Government Medical College (GMC), Amritsar Eligibility Criteria

The college offers admission to candidates who want to pursue MBBS, subject to the fulfillment of these eligibility criteria:

  • Nationality: Candidate must be a Citizen of India or Overseas Citizen of India.
  • Age Limit: He/she must be of minimum 17 years of age at the time of admission on or before December 31, 2019. The upper age limit for admission seekers under All India Quota is 25 years. SC/ST/OBC candidates are offered an age relaxation of 5 years.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates who have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology securing a minimum of 50% in PCB group are eligible. Physically handicapped candidates must secure a minimum of 45%. For reserved category (SC/ST/OBC), there is a relaxation of 10% so they have to secure a minimum of 40% to be eligible. Aspirants who are appearing in 10+2 examination in 2019 may also appear provisionally.

If two or more candidates have equal score in the exam, preference is given to

  • Candidates having higher marks in Biology/Biotechnology in NEET UG-2019.
  • Candidates having higher marks in Chemistry in NEET UG-2019.
  • Candidate older in age.

About Government Medical College Amritsar

GMC Amritsar was started as Medical School in Lahore in 1864. The school later got relocated to Amritsar In 1920. In 1943, the school was upgraded to Medical College. It is administered by Department of Medical Education and Research, Government of Punjab.

The college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The admissions to the college are regulated through the University. The college also offers various graduation, diploma and masters courses.
