    Nalin Khandelwal, from Sikar district Rajasthan, has topped NEET 2019 year. Khandelwal obtained AIR 1 NEET-UG with 99.99 percentile and a total of 701 marks. Securing AIR 1, Khandelwal has proved that he left no stone unturned during his preparation. Let’s look at the details of his journey to this magnanimous success.

    What made Nalin go for NEET 2019?

    Coming from a family of Doctors, Khandelwal had all the inspiration he needed. His father is a paediatrician who runs a private hospital and his mother is a gynaecologist. His elder brother Mihit Khandelwal did his NEET coaching from ALLEN Jaipur and is currently pursuing an MBBS degree. Also, his interest for Biology made him prepare for NEET. With the right guidance from his teachers and elders, he brought laurels to the family.

    What was his preparation strategy for the exam?

    With a rock-solid dedication, Nalin devoted himself to NEET preparation. Regularly, he would study for 7-8 hours with concentration. He never left a room for doubts and always aimed at concept clarity. Moreover, he prioritized NCERT books and studied mainly from them. A thorough revision of all the completed topics added to his knowledge.

    How did he manage class 12th and preparation for NEET? Was it difficult?

    Nalin scored a stunning 95 per cent in XII board examinations which further proves that he is a gem in academics. He mainly focused on NCERT books, therefore, it helped him to get a good grasp of CBSE pattern. Coaching helped him to prepare for NEET and during his self-study, he focused on both. Hence, he did well in both the exams.

    Being just a teenager, how did he manage to stay focused?

    With the constant increase of mobile phone usage and internet consumption by youth, you will be glad to know that Nalin did not use a smartphone for 2 years. No social media and no scrolling through social sites for 2 years. Nalin did his best and disparaged himself from everything that could have distracted him during his preparations.

    To what extent did he benefit from mock tests and previous years’ question papers?

    Mock tests are one of the best ways to evaluate yourself, as per Nalin. Apart from mock papers, he also practised JEE Mains previous years question papers because JEE questions are repeated in NEET often.

    What for him was the most difficult aspect of NEET preparation?

    Nalin feared physics as it was his weakest subject and he would often score less in it. But with his dedication and hard work, he excelled in his weakest subject. By constant practice, he managed to score full marks in Physics in NEET. He will suggest students to work on their weakest zones and invest more time in it.

    Any particular strategy that he followed while attempting the NEET 2019 Paper?

    Since he was confident in Biology, he attempted the section first. Followed by Chemistry and Physics. Although he felt that a few questions in Biology were confusing but he found the overall paper easy.

    As we know, the right study material is one of the keys to success so, which kind of study material did Nalin choose?

    Nalin says that the study material provided by his coaching institute i.e ALLEN, Jaipur was sufficient to clear NEET exam. Meanwhile, he kept his pace good and was in constant touch with NCERT books as well for further clarification of topics. Nalin further mentioned that in the last 15 days of his preparations, he joined online test series to get familiar with the competition at National level. Aakash Test series was a productive decision from him as he got a lot of assistance from it.

    What was his constant source of motivation?

    He shares that his family was immensely supportive. Apart from their constant support, he also had his teachers to guide and motivate him throughout. He approached his teachers for any sort of doubts.

    Some tips for future aspirants by Nalin:

    • Always enjoy studying instead of taking it as a burden.

    • Make sure you get a proper 7 hours of sleep to function your mind efficiently.

    • Set daily targets and achieve them before going to bed.

    • Multiple revisions of a single topic is a great way to memorize well.

    • Always make notes for revision.
