Punjab MBBS Admission Through NEET 2018

MBBS admissions in Punjab State will be conducted by the Baba Farid University of Health and Sciences on the basis of the NEET scores.  NEET is now the only central medical entrance exam across the country. Candidates who qualify the NEET 2018 will need to fill the application form for admission in medical colleges in Punjab. Application forms for the Punjab MBBS admissions will be available in July 2018 after the NEET Result declaration.  ​

NEET 2018

For the State of Punjab, NEET 2018 is now the common central entrance exam for admission into medical colleges. CBSE conducts the NEET. NEET 2018 is scheduled for May 6, 2018. The application form will be available online from Febraury 8, 2018 to March 9, 2018.

The NEET will have 180 questions. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. There are 3 sections in the exam, namely Chemistry, Physics, and Botany & Zoology. Each section will have 4 questions.

The NEET Result will be released on June 5, 2018. After the result declaration, qualifying candidates will be needed to participate in the counselling process for admission into the various medical colleges in Punjab. Counselling will start in May 2018.

Admissions into these medical colleges generally start after the declaration of the NEET Result. The Punjab MBBS admission process will start tentatively in July 2018. Candidates can check out the dates given below for reference:

Eligibility Criteria

The conducting body has set standard eligibility criteria for the final admissions into the various medical colleges of Punjab. Listed below are the criteria that a candidates needs to meet before applying for admissions:

On the basis of Age:  Candidates must be at least 17 years old as of December 31, 2018

On the basis of Education: Candidate should have completed their class XII or equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subjects

On the basis of Academic Scores: Candidates should have secured an aggregate score of least 50% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. For candidates of the SC/ST/PwD category, the minimum eligible score is 45%.

On the basis of NEET Score:

Below are the qualifying scores for NEET for students of each category:

General50% which is equal to 360 marks
SC/ST/OBC40% which is equal to 288 marks
General PH45% which is equal to 324 marks
Reserved PH40% which is equal to 288 marks

Domicile: Candidates must be residents of the Punjab State. They should have acquired the last two years of their qualification in a Punjab institution. Wards of Govt. /State/Defense/Military personnel are also eligible. Candidates who have studied in educational institutions in Chandigarh are also eligible.

Application Procedure

The application forms for the Punjab MBBS Admissions will be available in the month of July 2018. Candidates must check the eligibility criteria for admissions to the various colleges before applying. Candidates would be needed to participate in the counselling process for admission to these MBBS colleges.

Candidates may refer to the following points for the admission procedure:

  1. Candidates need to register for Punjab MBBS Admissions 2018 using their NEET score.
  2. Candidates need to pay the registration fee.
  3. After paying the fee, candidates need to fill the same details which they had filled while registering for NEET 2018
  4. Candidates need to fill their personal details and educational details.
  5. After that, candidates can fill the the maximum number of preferences of colleges
  6. Candidates need to take the printout of the application form.

Application Fee is INR 3000/- which can be remitted via online (net banking) or offline (Challan through Oriental Bank of Commerce or HDFC Bank) mode .

Counselling Procedure

Candidates who have secured qualifying marks in NEET 2018 will be called for the counselling. Online counselling will be conducted in July 2018.  The preparation of the merit list and the allotment of seats will be done on the basis of the NEET scores. Candidates willing to participate in the counselling procedure are required to pay a counselling fee.

After seat allotment, candidates need to report physically at the allotted college for document verification and fee payment.

The following documents are required for verification:

  • 10th class certificate
  • 12th class certificate
  • NEET 2018 Admit card
  • NEET 2018 Score Card
  • Punjab Resident Certificate
  • Category Certificate
  • Challan Receipt

There will be three rounds, out of which 2 are online rounds and one is a spot round. Candidates will need to be present physically for the admission. After verification, the principal of the respective college would issue a bank challan for the deposition of the tuition fee in any branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce/HDFC Bank.

In case the candidate wants to change the allotted college, they would need to participate in the next counselling round. In case the candidate wants to switch the course or seat, they would need to submit an application to the respective college before getting a seat in next counselling.

Reservation of Seats

Out of all the seats, 15% are reserved for the All- India quota, and are filled through a centralized counselling process conducted by the CBSE on the basis of the NEET 2018 scores. The remaining 85% seats would be filled through State- level counselling. While taking admission, candidates need to submit their authentic category certificates.
