AIIMS MBBS 2017 Paper Analysis

AIIMS MBBS 2017 has been successfully conducted by All India Institute of Medical Sciences on May 28, 2017 for admission to MBBS programmes of AIIMS across India.
The exam was conducted in two shifts across 171 cities -

  • Morning (9:00 am to 12:30 pm)
  •  Evening (3:00 pm to 6:30 pm)

The exam was conducted as a Computer Based-Test (CBT) for 3 hours 30 minutes. Candidates appeared for the online test, as per the slot allotted to them. Paper was based on the 10+2 syllabus and most of the questions asked were from class 11th.

AIIMS MBBS 2017 Exam Highlights

  • Paper was divided into 4 sections- Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General knowledge.
  • Total questions were 200 with 1 mark awarded for the every right answer and 1/3 deduction for the wrong attempt.
  • Section A i.e. Physics, was of 60 marks and was the difficult of all. The questions were tricky and the section mostly involved the numerical based questions which were time consuming.
  • Section B i.e. Chemistry, also of 60 marks involved questions of moderate difficulty level. Most of the questions were asked from organic chemistry and less time consuming as compared to the physics section.
  • Section C i.e. Biology, consisted of 60 questions and was easier as compared to the other two sections. Most of the questions were asked from Photosynthesis.

Section D was dedicated General Knowledge and was worth 20 marks. Since the section did not involve any calculations or computations, experts believed it to be scoring

Section- wise Analysis of AIIMS 2017

  • Section A: Physics Questions asked in the Physics section ranged from moderate to difficult and mostly the questions were from the class 11. Time management was must while attempting Physics section because it involved numerical based questions which were long and tricky and required some techniques and proper usage of formulas. . 99% of the questions in Physics were calculative in nature.

Other important topics in the section were- Heat and Thermodynamic, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Kinematics

Section B: Chemistry
Chemistry section was easier as compared to the previous section. Most of the questions were asked from Organic Chemistry and the section was less time consuming because of the moderate difficulty level.

Other Important topics in Chemistry section were- Thermodynamics, Biomolecules, Equilibrium and Chemical Kinetics. The section consisted of some numerical and most of the questions were theoritical. Some questions were difficult while some were simple so level of the paper was average.

Section C: Biology

Difficulty level of the questions asked in the Biology section ranged from easy to moderate. The section was the least time consuming because the questions were direct and easy to answer.

Other topics are: Biological Classification, Transport in Plant, Digestion and Absorption, Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants, Application of Biotechnology, Circulation of Body Fluids, Human Reproduction and Evolution. Candidates who have solved AIIMS MBBS previous years question papers have higher scope of getting good marks in Biology section.
Section: 4
General Knowledge And Reasoning:

The Section consists of 20 marks and questions are generally asked regarding current affairs and also involves some general questions. This time in AIIMS MBBS 2017, questions were very simple and easy to answer. As per reports most students attempted almost all the questions form General Knowledge section in exam.

GK section proved to be easier for candidates up-to-date with latest national and international events including people who made the news recently and various important schemes launched by the Centre off late. For example, there were questions asked about the BHIM app and the URJA app

The questions asked in the AIIMS MBBS revolved around:

  • Indian History
  • Geography
  • Indian Politics
  • Indian Economy
  • General Science and general awareness

The overall difficulty level of AIIMS MBBS could be categorized as moderate with Physics being the toughest followed by chemistry while Biology and General knowledge were the easiest ones. The initial reactions received from students from both slots is that the AIIMS 2017 MBBS paper was not satisfactory .On the other hand, some found the paper easier as compared to the previous year exam.

AIIMS 2017, like the preceding versions of the exam, used a normalization procedure to determine cut-off (qualifying Cut-off is given below) corresponding percentiles taking both the morning and evening slots into account. As per the officials, if the percentiles for both shifts turn out to be unequal, then the lower of the two will be the eligible category-wise cut-off.

AIIMS MBBS 2017 Result

The examination authority will declare the result of AIIMS MBBS 2017 on June 14,2017. It can be checked on the official website. On the basis of result, candidates will be called for their counselling.

  • The result will be declared for only those candidates who will secure the qualifying percentage as prescribed by the examination authority.
  • The AIIMS MBBS result 2017 will be declared rank wise as well as roll number wise.
  • To check result candidates have to look for their name, roll number, father’s name and category in the result list.
  • As per the AIIMS MBBS 2017 qualifying criteria the cut off score for general category candidates is 50% while the OBC candidates have to score 45% in the entrance exam. Among the total seats 350 are for general and 189 are for OBC category candidates
  • 40% reservation is for SC/ST.
