CLAT 2019 Exam Pattern

CLAT Exam Pattern 2019 will be decided by NLUs, the exam conducting authority for CLAT. The exam pattern of CLAT will provide information regarding mode of exam, type and number of questions asked, time duration of the exam, and marking scheme etc. Candidates appearing for CLAT 2019 are advised to check latest CLAT Exam Pattern 2019 to stay updated.

CLAT 2019 is an online exam conducted to evaluate a candidate’s skills of Logical Reasoning, English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude and Mathematics. The paper pattern for UG and PG courses is entirely different. The exam will be conducted in English language only. CLAT 2019 is a national-level law entrance exam conducted by 19 National Law Universities for admission to Bachelor and Master Degree Programs in Law. CLAT Registration 2019 will start from January, 2019 and will end in March, 2019. CLAT 2019 is scheduled to be held in May, 2019. CLAT 2019 Exam Pattern in Detail

CLAT 2019 Exam Pattern for LLB

There are 5 sections in CLAT Exam Pattern 2019 which test candidates’ knowledge of the following sections:

  • Legal Aptitude
  • General Knowledge
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • English
  • Logical Reasoning

Candidates need to complete 200 questions of CLAT 2019 in a total duration of 2 hours. One mark will be awarded for every correct answer while 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. Candidates can check below the section-wise breakup for CLAT Exam Pattern 2019 for LLB course.

CLAT 2019 Exam Pattern for LLM

CLAT 2019 is also conducted for PG courses i.e. LLM admission in NLUs. The exam pattern is similar that of LLB course with MCQs but with less questions and different subjects. Important Points regarding CLAT Exam Pattern 2019

  • All questions will be multiple choice type and candidates have to choose 1 correct answer out of the 4 answer options available.
  • Each correct answer will be given 1 mark, while for each incorrect response, there is negative marking of 0.25 mark. For questions that are not attempted, no marks or zero marks will be given.
  • The total time duration for the exam is 2 hours and there is no time limit to attempt any section. So, candidates can take up any question anytime from any of the 4 sections and solve rest of the questions later.

Candidates should also note that the questions in CLAT question paper are randomly selected from a question bank. Thus, all the candidates get different sets of question paper. NLUs make sure that CLAT question paper sets are of comparable difficulty level and comprise all types of questions.

CLAT 2019 Syllabus

There is no prescribed syllabus as such for CLAT 2019 by NLUs. The questions for UG law courses are asked from English and Reading Comprehension, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Mathematics of up to 10th class, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning sections.

For PG courses, the questions are asked from Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and other law subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, Environment Law and Human Rights topics.

  • Constitutional Law consists various rules, practices, and doctrines that govern the functioning of a modern state and other political communities. Candidates will be asked questions based on concepts that they have studies in their graduation.
  • Jurisprudence, known as the “philosophy of law” is classified into three branches - analytical, sociological, and theoretical. The questions in this section will be set on the basis of the syllabus prescribed in the graduation degree course.
  • The Tort Law is comparatively a recent common law development in India based on codifying statutes including statutes related to damages. Some of the crucial tortious obligations like Negligence, Nuisance and Defamation should be revised in detail.
  • Contract can be referred to as a piece of legal document which is a mutual agreement made by two or more parties, enforceable at law. Important decisions made by Supreme Court and High Court in relation to modern day commercial activities form a very crucial part of this subject.
  • Criminal Law, also known as Penal Law is aimed at regulation of Social code of conduct and prohibition of any antisocial activity that pose a threat to the safety, property, health and moral welfare of citizens. Significant topics on principles of criminal liability and mens rea (“guilty mind” in Criminal Law) should be given special attention.
  • International Law as a subject is focused on the set of legal guidelines and contracts that govern the relations between two states or nations. International Laws can be broadly classified into Public International law, Private International Law and Supranational Law.

CLAT 2019 Important Instructions

Candidates must abide by certain rules for CLAT 2019 exam and follow a set of instructions and the same have been mentioned below.

  • The test will be conducted in a single slot from 10.00 am and candidates’ exam center will be mentioned on CLAT Admit Card 2019 which is the most important document for exam.
  • The timings will also be mentioned on CLAT Admit Card and candidates are advised to reach the exam center an hour before the exam time.
  • Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles and they should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work. Blank sheets will be provided. Calculators and log tables are not allowed as well.
  • It is a computer based test, so candidates must have basic familiarity with computers, keyboard and mouse operation.
