CLAT is one of the popular law entrance tests conducted for admission to LLB and LLM programmes offered at 19 NLUs in India. CLAT 2017 is organized by CNLU (Chanakya National Law University), Patna. The exam is scheduled for May 14, 2017. It will be held in online mode at 63 exam centers across the country. Candidates seeking admission in law courses can apply for CLAT before March 31, 2017 on the official website. The application fee is INR 4000 for general category while it is INR 3500 for SC/ST candidates.

After the declaration of result, the exam conducting body will announce cutoff marks for seat allotment and conduct counselling process for the CLAT Law colleges. The Seat Allotment process allocates seats to the candidates at the time of counselling. It will be done on the basis of choices made by the candidates out of the participating institutes of Common Law Admission Test. Admission Procedure for CLAT 2017

Candidates will get admission to the Law courses on the basis of marks scored in CLAT 2017. The admission to LLB and LLB courses in participating colleges will be done through online centralized counselling conducted by CLAT office. The allotment list will be made on the basis of ‘merit cum preference’ as candidates filled their order of preference in the CLAT Application Form. The admission/counselling process will start after the declaration of CLAT 2017 results. CLAT Result is declared on May 29, 2017. The counselling fee for CLAT admission is INR 50,000. The provisionally selected candidates can withdraw from the admission process within stipulated time as per CLAT 2017 calendar. Only the nominal fee of INR 10,000 will be deducted from the deposited counselling fee. Check the stepwise procedure for admission is as follow:

  1. The separate merit cum preference list of all the colleges will announce by exam conducting body.
  2. The shortlisted candidates on the basis of CLAT Score will be allowed to participate in the counselling process against an actual number of seats available with participating NLUs. They have to deposit counselling fee at the CLAT office. If candidates failed to deposit the counselling fee, their names will be dropped from the merit list.
  3. The second merit list will publish for the candidates who have paid their counselling fee and reserved their seats in the participating NLUs.
  4. The third merit list will include the names of the candidates who have paid the counselling fee against the first and second list. A list of waitlisted candidates will also be released along with the third allotment list who are provisionally selected against the dropped-out candidates.
  5. The final list includes the names of the candidates who have paid the counselling fee against the first, second and third indicative lists. The name of candidates appears in the final list and who have not deposited the counselling are required to pay full fee to the allotted NLUs at the time of admission.

Admission formalities at the allotted NLUs

The selected candidates for LLB and LLM programmes through CLAT 2017 have to complete the admission formalities at the allotted institutions. Check the following points to know the formalities regarding admission process:

  • After the allotment of seats in CLAT participating colleges, candidates are required to approach the allotted institution with the balance amount towards the admission fee.
  • Candidates have to produce all the original documents at the allotted institution. The documents will be verified by the respective universities at the time of admission. If candidates fail to produce the required documents, they will not be allowed to seek admission in participating colleges.
  • If candidates fail to report at the allotted NLU after the declaration of CLAT merit list or fail to complete admission formalities. They will automatically lose their claim for admission and the entire amount of the counselling fee of INR 50,000 will be forfeited.
  • Candidates seeking admission under reserved categories such as SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD are required to produce the relevant certificate at the time of admission process. Candidates claiming reservation under state quota category have to produce State Domicile Certificate.
