    The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited is inviting applications for the post of Assistant Legal Adviser at E1 level through CLAT 2018 LLM paper. There are 15 vacancies in total – 08 posts under unreserved category, 04 posts reserved for OBC Category, 02 Posts for SC category and 01 Posts for ST category. The pay scale is in the grade of INR 60,000 – 1,80,000 along with 3% annual increment. 

    CLAT 2018 is scheduled for May 13, registration for ONGC Recruitment will begin from May 23. Law graduates or equivalent degree holders are eligible to apply for this post. CheckCLAT LLM Eligibility

    The selection procedure will commence after the declaration of results in May 2018. The final selection is done on the basis of scores obtained in the law exam followed by a personal interview.     Eligibility for ONGC CLAT 2018

    Law graduates willing to apply for this post must satisfy the minimum eligibility tabulated below:

    Important Note(s):

    • The degree should be approved by a statutory body for employment to posts and services under the Central Government like AIU/ UGC/ AICTE etc.
    •  With CGPA/ OGPA/ CPI/ DGPA or letter grade in degree, equivalent % of marks should be indicated in the application. Calculation of marks percentage as per University rules in the qualifying degree shall be applicable.  
    • Final semester/ year students of the qualifying course can also apply.  However, they must produce mark sheet and course completion certificate with minimum 60% of marks in the essential qualification on the last day of the interview.  

    Reservation Criteria

    The benefit of reservation will be given to the reserved category according to the ONGC rules. Candidates seeking reservation as SC, ST, OBC etc, they will have to submit the caste certificate in the prescribed format available at  

    To attain reservation benefits under OBC category, the name of caste and community must appear in the ‘Central list of Other Backward Classes’ available on National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Government of India website i.e. Creamy layers OBC candidates are not eligible to get this benefit.

    How to Apply for ONGC CLAT 2018?

    ONGC Registration is a two-stage process – 1) CLAT Online Registration and 2) Online Application to ONGC.

    Stage 1: CLAT Online Registration

    • Visit the official website of CLAT i.e.
    • Click ‘Apply Online’ and fill in the required details.
    • Scan and Upload the documents i.e. Photo and Signature
    • Finally, submit the application fee as per your category.
    • Take a print out of registration slip of CLAT 2018.

    Stage 2: ONGC Registration

    After filling in the CLAT form, apply online at ONGC website i.e. Follow the steps to register for ONGC post:

    • Visit the official website of ONGC i.e.
    • Click ‘Recruitment of Legal Adviser in ONGC’ link.
    • Enter your CLAT Registration Number and Date of Birth as a password.
    • Fill up the same details as entered at the time of CLAT registration.

    ONGC Selection Procedure for CLAT

    Candidates meeting age and eligibility criteria of ONGC as mentioned above can appear for the Common Law Admission Test 2018, scheduled for May 13 by NUALS Kochi. The selection for the post will be on the basis of CLAT LLM scores, Educational Qualification (including additional higher qualification i.e. Ph.D. only) and performance in personal interview. The details are tabulated below:

    Tie- Breaking Criteria

    If the total marks of two or more candidates are similar in the merit then the following standards will be followed:

    • Order of merit will be fixed on the basis of performance (Weightage of CLAT Score+ Marks in Interview)
    • If the tie continues, the one older in age is considered senior for release for the appointment.  

    Pay Scale

    As per the official notification, the pay scale for Assistant Legal Adviser post is in the grade of INR 60,000 to 1,80,000 per month with an increment of 3% per year. In addition to basic pay, the employee is entitled to allowance @ 35% of Basic Pay under Cafeteria Approach, Dearness Allowance, HRA/Company Accommodation, Contributory Provident Fund, Conveyance Maintenance, Substantial Performance Related Pay (PRP), Medical Facility for self and dependents, Gratuity, Post Retirement Benefit Scheme and Composite Social Security Scheme as per Company rules.

    Important Instructions for ONGC CLAT

    Candidates have to go through the detailed instructions for CLAT 2017 for LLM and the detailed advertisement of ONGC carefully before applying. They can check the following points to know the important instructions for ONGC through CLAT which are given below:

    • The selected candidates as an Assistant Legal Adviser are liable to be posted anywhere in India or abroad.
    • Candidates employed in PSUs and government departments will be required to produce ‘No Objection Certificate’ at the time of interview round.
    • ONGC reserves the right to reject any candidate at any stage of recruitment process if any information provided by the candidate is false.
    • Mere issue of call letter to the candidate will not imply that their candidature has been finally cleared by ONGC. During this period, the candidature is provisional. ONGC takes up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for the interview.
    • The selected candidates will be subject to their passing company’s medical examination as per their medical standard’s rules.

    ONGC Recruitment through CLAT 2018 – FAQs

    Ques: How will ONGC use the scores of CLAT 2018?

    Ans: ONGC will use CLAT 2018 LLM score for shortlisting candidates for the post released by ONGC. The company uses the scores in lieu of their own written test. Short listing will be done based on merit. The scores will be provided by the CLAT 2018 authorities. National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi is the coordinating institute for the Common Law Admission Test. 

    Ques: I appeared for CLAT last year. Do I need to appear for the national level law exam this year again for being considered for the position of Assistant Legal Adviser in ONGC?

    Ans: Any previous CLAT score is not valid for this recruitment exercise in ONGC. The current year scores will be considered valid for ONGC post.

    Ques: Is there any physical fitness criteria for appearing in CLAT and for applying in ONGC?

    Ans: CLAT does not have any physical fitness criteria, but ONGC has. Candidates wanting to appear in CLAT for recruitment in ONGC must see the medical fitness standard of ONGC. CheckONGC Medical Requirements

    Ques. Do I have to pay a separate fee for ONGC application for the post?

    Ans. Yes, General and OBC category candidates are required to pay INR 300, while, SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates do not have to make any payment. 

    Ques. Is there any particular branch or bank where the application fee needs to be submitted?

    Ans. Yes, the fee can be deposited at any branch of State Bank of India through Challan. It should be deposited in ONGC Power Jyoti A/C Number 30827318409 of SBI, Tel Bhavan, Dehradun. Payment is to be made as per the designated process only. 

    Ques. Can I deposit the fee via DD/ Banker Cheque/ IPO?

    Ans. No, no other mode of payment will be accepted other than the open stated above. If you will make any such payments then it will not be refunded or returned.

    Ques. Is the application fee for ONGC post refundable?

    Ans. No, the registration fee is non-refundable. Therefore, be sure before making the payment.  

    Ques. I am a final year LLB student. Can I apply for the ONGC post?

    Ans. Yes, but you must produce the final mark sheet and degree with requisite percentage of marks on or before last date of interview.

    Ques. I am an LLM student and took admission to LLM program via CLAT only. Do I need to write CLAT 2018 again for applying for the post offered by ONGC?

    Ans. Yes, the organisation will consider the scores of CLAT 2018 only to shortlist candidates for the current job opening. Previous year scores will not be considered under any circumstances.

    Ques. Is there any minimum % of marks requirement for appearing in CLAT-2018 and applying in ONGC? 

    Ans. Yes, for CLAT 2018, having minimum 55% (General/ OBC/ PwD category) and minimum 50% for SC/ST at graduation level (LLB or equivalent) is required. For ONGC, minimum  60% marks in LLB (Professional) Examination and for recruitment of ALA in ONGC the criteria of ONGC will prevail. 

    Ques. I am applying for CLAT only for recruitment in the organisation. Can I changeCLAT Exam Center or make corrections in the application form? If yes, then whom should I get in touch with?

    Ans. For this, contact CLAT 2018 authorities. ONGC does not have any control on conducting the law examination. Anything pertaining to CLAT examination needs to be dealt with the authorities only. 

    Ques. Can I apply to ONGC before the admit card of CLAT is issued?

    Ans. No. The document will carry your CLAT 2018 application number, roll number and control number etc.. To apply for ONGC, these credentials are necessary.
