IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel) will conduct CWE PO/ MT Recruitment Examination in October 2017. Preparing for IBPS PO varies from aspirant to aspirant and depends a lot on their level of preparation. There is lot of practice elements in Bank PO, speed is something which is very critical.

Tips to crack English section

The English section for the IBPS PO exam can be broadly divided into 4 parts- Grammar, Verbal Ability, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. One can go through the following article to know more about the same:

  • There are 2 main topics in Grammar on which questions are asked in both Prelims and Main exams.

IBPS PO English Language

  • You will need to learn basic grammar concepts like Tenses, Articles, Prepositions, Degrees of Comparison, Subject-Verb Agreement, Conjunctions, Parts of Speech, Standard Construction, Adverbs, Number in Nouns, etc.
  • Practice previous year’s papers as this will give you a fair idea about the difficulty level of questions and you can also evaluate your performance.
  • Practice grammar questions thoroughly using free apps. By, learning topic wise, it will surely enhance your English. As it does not need calculations, so practicing on app is an excellent method of improving your English.

IBPS PO English Language

  • Building a vocabulary is a passive skill. Whenever you come across a new word, make sure to look it up in a dictionary or google it on your phones. Keep a sheet where you note down its meaning, synonyms, antonyms and its usage. Later, try to use these words in sentences of your own to revise the meanings.
  • Cloze Test are considered to be one of the easiest questions, only if attempted properly. Though it can prove to be complicated as one error can cost you a lot of marks as all the blanks that are to be filled are inter-related.
  • This practice has the added advantage of helping you enhance your understanding of the context of the passage for Reading Comprehension or Cloze Test.

Reading Comprehension

  • The passages will be of medium length. Read the entire passage carefully and then read all the questions. Practice one comprehension question daily from previous year’s paper or online mock tests.
  • The passages will likely be based on topics like Banking & Economy, Business, Social issues, etc. The questions will be mainly Fact-Based and Vocabulary based. Some questions can also be asked on the Main Idea & Theme of Passage. You may also be asked to draw Inferences based on your understanding of the passage.
  • For Synonyms and Antonyms in IBPS PO English Language Section, refer to the line in which they are mentioned and try to infer their meaning by analyzing the meaning of the sentence as a whole.
  • Practice comprehensions from various topics because you never know what kind of topic you are going to face in the paper.

Verbal Ability

This section consists of 6 sentence para jumble with 5 questions based on it. Analyze the theme of each para jumble and then try to restoring the paragraph in the right order. Look for connecting words like conjunctions that will help you link the story well.

IBPS PO English Language Important Topics

The English section of the exam tests the candidate’s basic knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, reading, and verbal ability. Since the selected candidates would be placed as an officer in charge (of some financial /administrative aspect) it is expected from them to have a working knowledge of English language.

The syllabus of the exam just mentions the word English and Comprehension and do not specify what specifically is to be studied. IBPS PO English Language: Sample Questions
