IBPS PO Prelims 2017 Expected Cut Off

IBPS PO Prelims for the year 2017 was conducted on October 7, 2017 and October 8, 2017. The exam was reported to be moderately difficult this year. IBPS Cut Off is expected to remain static as per the observations made in previous years.

  • IBPS PO Preliminary exam was a notch higher than previous year as far as level of difficulty is concerned.
  • After careful analysis of the paper, one can infer that the questions were direct and formula based.
  • This year, the cut off for preliminary phase of IBPS PO may not see much change and is predicted to remain similar to that in previous year, i.e., between 50-56.
  • However, for reserved category candidates, a marginal drop can be expected.
  • The trend of changing exam pattern was right in place this year as well with major changes in English section.
  • Also, changes were made in number and type of questions in different slots and no set pattern was followed for any slot in particular.

IBPS PO Prelims 2017 Overall Expected Cut Off

Although the exam had a higher level of difficulty as compared to last year, however, we may expect the cut off for IBPS PO Prelims to remain close to what it was in the year 2016. IBPS PO Prelims 2017 Expected Sectional Cut Off

Apart from overall cut off, candidates will have to make it to the sectional cut off as set by the authorities. Those who clear the overall and sectional IBPS PO Prelims 2017 Cut Off will proceed to the next phase which will be conducted on November 26, 2017.

IBPS PO Prelims 2017 Paper Analysis

IBPS PO Prelims was conducted on October 7 and October 8, 2017. The exam, as mentioned earlier was moderately difficult with English being a trouble-maker for many students.

Before we delve deeper into the analysis, we must look at the changes in the exam pattern introduced this year.

  • The foremost change which was witnessed in IBPS PO Prelims 2017 was changing pattern in each slot. The number of questions and type of questions were varying in each slot.
  • There was a new pattern in the questions related to Error spotting, Fillers and Sentence Improvement. Candidates faced difficulty particularly as there were 3 statements given and the options themselves had one or more statements. 

Now let us look at the section-wise analysis of the exam held on both the days:

English Language 

What surprised candidates the most in IBPS PO Prelims 2017 was English language section. The problematic aspect for most of the aspirants was that there were some questions where and the options themselves had one or multiple sentences correct. These questions particularly posed problem out of all the sections.

  1. Reading Comprehension- Reading Comprehension section was common across all the sections. Overall 10 questions were asked in which maximum contribution was from Synonyms/Antonyms with total 4 questions.
  2. Error Detection- Total 10 questions were asked from this topic and major change was witnessed in the pattern of error-based questions.
  3. Sentence Improvement- The presence of these questions was there in some slots only. A new pattern was followed in this topic.
  4. Fillers- this topic also covered 10 questions in total. The topic had its presence in some slots.

Quantitative Aptitude  

This section saw no major change. The only variation across slots was that while some slots had quadratic equations, other had number series. Data interpretation and discount topics were tough while questions from time and work, age problems, profit and loss, compound interest and average topics were of moderate level.

  1. Number series- 5 questions were asked from this topic. The questions were reported to be easy and quick to solve.
  2. Simplification and Approximation- Similar to Number Series, Simplification and Approximation covered 5-6 questions. These questions were doable and easy to solve as well.
  3. Quadratic equation- Questions were based on factorization and basic formula application. This topic was not covered in each slot.
  4. Data interpretation- 12 questions were asked in 2 sets. The only difference was the type of DI question asked, i.e. some slots included line graph, while Pie chart was asked in others.
  5. Miscellaneous- The questions were easy to solve. 12 questions were asked from this topic.

Reasoning Ability    

Reasoning Ability section saw change with number of questions and level of difficulty increased simultaneously. There were at least 20 questions from puzzles in each slot.

  1. Inequality- Direct questions were asked from this topic. Overall 3-5 questions were asked in some slots.
  2. Syllogism- Old pattern was continued and 3-5 questions of easy nature were asked.
  3. Coding-decoding- Total 4-5 questions were asked from this section out of which major focus was on sentence based coding.
  4. Input-output- Question was based on double shifting pattern and were doable. Only 5 questions were put up from this section.
  5. Puzzles and Seating Arrangement- 20 questions were asked from each slot and were common for all.
  6. Miscellaneous- Only 3-5 questions were asked from this section, the topics included blood relations, direction sense, alphabet test, etc.
