NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
SSC recently released notification for recruitment of 8300 Multi-tasking staffs for non-technical posts. The written exam for SSC MTS will be conducted in April 2017. The selection procedure of SSC MTS comprises of an objective type and a descriptive type written test.
Candidates are shortlisted for recruitment on their performance in the written tests. Selected candidates may be posted in any central government department or office in different states and union territories.
With the exam scheduled in April, candidates have close to 3 months to prepare for MTS recruitment exam. It is easy to succeed in SSC MTS Exam, if a candidate has a clear understanding of the exam pattern and syllabus. In the following article, the exam pattern for both objective and descriptive test is explained.
SSC MTS Exam consists of two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is an objective type test and Paper II is a descriptive type test. The difficulty level for the exam is usually moderate to easy. Questions asked in the exam are of matriculation level. Candidates who score marks equal to or more than the cut off marks set by SSC in Paper I, are only allowed to appear for Paper II.
SSC MTS Paper I is an objective type paper. The paper consists of 4 sections and has a total of 150 questions. The main highlights of Paper I is given below:

SSC MTS Paper I has four sections namely – General Intelligence & Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General English, and General Awareness. Since the eligibility for the exam is matriculation, the questions will be of Senior Secondary level.
The question paper will be in both English and Hindi. SSC may also set the questions in regional languages subject to technical feasibility. For each correct answer the candidate will be awarded 1 marks and for each wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted.
General Intelligence and Reasoning section will have questions from non-verbal reasoning. The questions will include topics such as similarities and differences, space visualization, decision making, analysis and judgment, relationship, number and alphabet series etc.
In case of Numerical Aptitude, the questions will be from 10th level mathematics syllabus. Some important topics are Number system, profit & loss, percentage, average, time & work, time & distance, mensuration, line and graph etc.
General English section will test a candidate’s understanding of basic English language. The important topics to cover for this section are vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonym, antonym etc.
The General awareness section will have questions from current affairs, everyday science, history, polity, culture, economics, geography, Indian constitution and scientific development etc. Candidates must prepare questions in general knowledge relating not just to India but also to its neighboring countries.
SSC MTS Paper II is qualifying in nature. It means that the marks scored in paper II are not used for merit list preparation, but a candidate must score the qualifying marks in this paper in order to be eligible for selection. Candidates who score cutoff marks in Paper I, will only be eligible for appearing in Paper II.
SSC MTS Paper II is descriptive in nature. In paper II, candidates have to write a short essay or letter in English or any regional language included in the 8th schedule of the constitution. Paper II tests a candidate’s elementary language skills in view of the job responsibilities associated with the post of Multi-tasking staff.
Candidates will be selected based on the marks scored in paper I of SSC MTS and qualification in paper II. The cutoff marks for Paper I will be decided by the commission. The cutoff may be different for vacant posts in each State and Union Territory.
