The rigorous practice and a good preparation strategy guarantees success in the IES exam. The exam has both objective and conventional type questions hence theory, conceptual knowledge and problem-solving techniques are equally important. Listed below are pointers that will help in preparing better for IES 2018:
Know IES Exam Pattern: Get acquainted with the latest examination pattern and syllabus of the exam. It is important to have clear knowledge about the technical & non-technical questions that will be asked, negative marks, weightage, exam duration and marks per question. Check IES Syllabus
Time Management: While preparing for ESE, time management is very essential. The first step should be to make a time table. It should be made according to your comfort and as per the weightage of each topic. Also, make sure to follow it religiously.
Suggestion: Take one subject from each section of technical subjects and devote at least 3 hours daily to it. Also, try to devote 1 hour each to English and General Studies to prepare well for Paper 1.
Make Short-term study plans: Prepare short-term study plans. Execute and make them the long-term goals to succeed in the examination. While studying the technical subjects don’t forget to make short notes of important topics. Also, make a separate list of formulae for each subject. Later you can revise the short notes and formulae list daily.

There are two sections in the IES paper. Each section needs focus and balanced preparation to crack the exam. The section wise preparation tips for IES 2018 are given below:
General ability paper carries 300 marks. It is the most scoring section. General Study preparation also plays an important role in personal interview.
Engineering Aptitude section of the Paper 1 covers Logical reasoning, Analytical ability, Engineering Mathematics and Numerical Analysis. Following are some points to prepare these sections better:
Candidates are required to have excellent base in their core engineering subjects in order to clear the second paper of preliminary exam. The branches are as follows:
1) Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering,
