NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE/OFFLINE TEST
English Language section is considered easy and comparatively less time taking yet confusing segment in SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam. All the answers seem to be correct in English section if candidates don’t have tight grasp over grammar and vocabulary. Good knowledge of English can be helpful in all the three tiers of SSC CHSL 2019.
SSC CHSL 2019 will be held from July 1 – 26. Last day to apply is April 5, 2019. Check SSC CHSL Application Form
Only few months are left for the exam. Level of competition is high in this exam as the number of aspirants for this exam is huge. In order to stand out, it is important to make use of strengths and work on weak points when it comes to exam preparations. Read on to know the topic wise syllabus, marking scheme and preparation tips for English Language section.
Before going ahead towards in depth of the English Language section, let us first have a brief idea about the SSC CHSL Tier 1 paper. It will be an objective test. Candidates will get 60 minutes for solving 100 questions. Here is the exam pattern for SSC CHSL 2019:

English is a language and it cannot be learnt in a day or two. Start early to become proficient in the language by the time exam arrives. The easiest way to learn English is by implementing it in your lifestyle. Read English, Write English, Listen English and Speak English. However, from the point of view of the exam one should get good study materials and practice previous year question papers. Focus on the question oriented topics first and practice them well.
It is very important for students to plan accordingly. Following points help students in making a study plan and cover most of the syllabus:
Make Reading a Habit: Read newspaper, magazines, books or blogs, just read and while you reading focus on how the grammar is used in the sentences. Note down the difficult words and look for their synonyms and antonyms at the same time. You can take help of Google for this. Always go for English to English meaning to improve your vocabulary. This will help you in answering questions related to reading comprehension, cloze passage, synonyms, antonyms and vocabulary.

Sample Question 2.: In the following question, out of the four alternatives, select the alternative which best expresses the meaning of the idiom/phrase. to get up on the wrong side of the bed

Learn Grammar: English grammar can be learnt in short span of time as they have forms to be used in present, past and future tenses. Focus on verbs, usage of helping verbs and modals. This will help you solve editing, omission and rearrange the sentences sort of questions as they are based on grammar mostly.

Practice Regularly: Practice will help students to improve their performance in the exam. With regular practice, students can solve the questions in a very less time which helps them in time management. Students should practice in such a way that not a single topic from the syllabus should be left untouched. Questions such as active-passive, direct-indirect speech need regular practice.
Sample Question 1.: In the following question, a sentence has been given in Active/Passive voice. Out of four alternatives suggested, select the one, which best expresses the same sentence in Passive/Active voice. The candidates are writing an essay.
Options: 1) An essay was wrote by the candidates.
2) An essay is being written by the candidates.
3) An essay has had been written by the candidates.
4) An essay had been written by the candidates.

Sample Question 2.: In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one, which best express the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech. Bunty said, "I have done my class work".
Options: 1) Bunty said, he had done his class work.
2) Bunty said that he had done his class work.
3) Bunty was saying, he has done his class work.
4) Bunty said that he did his class work.
Answer: 2) Bunty said that he had done his class work.
Get Good Study Material: All the learning and practicing requires some study material to rely on. Go for books that are updated with SSC CHSL exam pattern and syllabus and have exam oriented concepts. You can look for some online study material and take help from dictionary and other English apps.
Practice Sample Papers: Practicing previous year question papers give students idea about their preparation level. It helps students in identifying their weak and strong areas so that they can shift their focus on weak concepts and leave strong ones for revision only.
Group Discussion: English is a language which gets better while communcating with people. Group Discussion is a very effective method that students should follow for the better learning of English. Students can exchange their knowledge and clear each others mistakes ,if any, related to any of the topics which is beneficial to all group members.
Books are the best source of examination preparation. Students can clear all their doubts regarding any topic while preparing from the books. English Language has syllabus has no limit so choosing the right book is crucial.
