SSC CHSL 2019 Exam Pattern

Staff Selection Commission is responsible for prescribing and revising SSC CHSL Exam Pattern. The minimum eligibility to apply for SSC CHSL is qualifying 10+2 examination from a recognized board. The Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) is a two-tier competitive exam conducted by SSC at national level to recruit candidates for Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts. Here is a brief overview of SSC CHSL 2019 Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam pattern.

  • SSC CHSL Tier 1 is organized in online or computer-based test mode. Check SSC CHSL 2019 Marking Scheme
  • Tier 1 of SSC CHSL consists of 4 sections- General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness.
  • There are total 100 questions of total 200 marks in Tier 1. Each section has 25 questions.
  • The time duration for SSC CHSL Tier 1 is 1 hour.  
  • SSC CHSL Tier 2 is a descriptive type paper of 100 marks in ‘Pen and Paper’ mode.
  • Candidates need to write an essay and a letter. They can opt to write the exam in either in Hindi or in English.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Tier 1 and there is no negative marking in the tier 2 exam.
  • There is also a Tier III exam that would comprise Skill Test/ Typing Test of qualifying nature.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

  • Tier II of SSC CHSL is conducted in Pen and Paper Mode to assess the writing skills of the candidates.
  • The Paper comprises writing of an Essay of 200-250 words and Letter/ Application of approx. 150-200 words.

SSC CHSL 2019 Marking Scheme

SSC CHSL 2019 stage 1 will have MCQ type of questions and all the questions will carry 1 marks each while stage II is a descriptive type exam. Candidates can go through marking scheme applicable for SSC CHSL stage I and stage II.

  • Total Questions- 100 (4 subjects)
  • Total Marks- 200
  • Marks for Each Correct Answer- +2 mark
  • Negative Marking- 0.50 mark
  • Questions Left Blank- No mark.

  • Total Questions- 2 (Essay and Application/Letter)
  • Total Marks- 100
  • Negative Marking- No
  • Min Qualifying Marks- 33.
