NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
UGC NET 2017 selection process is based on the performance of candidates in all the three papers of UGC NET i.e. paper I, paper II and paper III. Candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in all of the paper. The minimum qualifying marks for general category in the paper I & paper II is 40 and paper III is 75. For OBC/ ST/ ST candidates, the qualifying marks are 35 for the paper I & paper II and 60 for paper III.
CBSE conducts UGC NET for the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The exam has been successfully conducted on January 22, 2017. This exam also serves as eligibility criteria for admission to PhD programme. Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF will be eligible to receive the fellowship of UGC under various schemes. The validity of the JRF award letter is two years.

The allocation of JRF slots among different subjects will be done category wise. The candidates applied for JRF will be considered for the award of JRF according to the slots available for JRF. Candidates qualified for Assistant professor are not eligible to apply for Junior Research Fellowships. The minimum of 3200 fellowships in each UGC NET is provided by the commission. According to the government of India reservation policy, the following fellowships are reserved category wise as mentioned below:
The calculation is based on the ratio of the number of candidates opted for JRF and qualified for assistant professor eligibility. Here is the formula to calculate the number of slots under general category.
No. of slots under general category for JRF in a subject = (No. of candidates opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for assistant professor in that subject * no. of slots available under general category) / Total no. of candidates who have opted for JRF and are qualified for eligibility for assistant professor.
Note: The similar formulae will be used for OBC/SC/ST category and all the subjects.
If the number of JRF slots obtained for any subject in a particular category is less than one, it is taken as one. For fractions greater than one, the figure is rounded off to the nearest whole number.
If more than one candidate has secured equal marks. While preparing the merit list in such cases a dilemma will arise regarding which candidate to place in what order. There are some rules to avoid this situation that will come into effect for the purpose of breaking.
