STATE LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
In a major setback for aspirants of UPTET, Allahabad High Court dismissed petitions filed by hundreds of candidates of Uttar Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test 2017 on Monday, January 29, 2018.
These candidates had filed petitions in the court for evaluation of their answer sheets which had been rejected by UPTET exam authorities on account of errors in filling details like registration number, roll number, language preference, and booklet series in the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheets. The test which was conducted on October 15, 2017 was taken by approximately 7 lakhs candidates, declared the result for this session on December 15, 2017.
The Court, however, rejected all the petitions by declaring that clear instructions were mentioned in the examination booklet and candidates were warned in advance that their answer sheets will be rendered invalid in case of any mistakes in filling the information incorrectly. There will not be any evaluation of all such answer sheets, thus making hundreds of candidates lose a chance at qualifying for the exam and securing UPTET Eligibility Certificate which would make them eligible for teaching jobs at Primary and Upper Primary Level of schools.
Justice M C Tripathi also stated that in the garb of minor discrepancies for rectifying such "human error" in the OMR sheets, the court cannot give any liberty to respondent authorities to intervene in the matter at this stage, which would have very serious consequences on the "fairness" of the entire selection process.
Every year, Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB) organizes UPTET to recruit Primary and Upper Primary Level teachers in the schools of Uttar Pradesh. The exams is made up of Paper 1 and Paper 2 and candidates can either for both or one of the two exams.
