The post of an Auditor is a Group-B post which comes under the ambit of Indian Audit and Accounts Department headed by CAG which is a constitutional office. CBI is an efficient organization with the quality human resource. It will be beneficial for any candidate to work with such talented colleagues at an early stage of his/her career.
The notification for Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL 2017) exam was released recently on the official website of SSC.
The vacancy for all the three posts of the auditor is yet to be disclosed by the SSC. This year SSC has come out with some changes in the application process and vacancy disclosure. The post of Auditors is grouped together and are allotted a category A. Candidates who want to apply for the post of Auditors would have to fill option A as their first preference. Similarly, other posts are also grouped together based on their nature and are allotted category B, C, and D.
The vacancies for the post of the Auditor are expected to be similar in number as that of last year. For your reference, we have tabled the vacancies for the post of auditor from previous year.

Due to the large preference of this post among male candidates, the cut-off for the job always hovers on the higher side. With a limited number of the posts under the recruitment process, the competition for grabbing the job is cut-throat. However, for someone who is preparing for the exam from quite sometimes, it would not be difficult to achieve that cut-off. For you reference, we have tabled the previous year’s cut-off for the post of Auditor.
The cut-off can vary from the previous year as it depends upon multiple factors. Following factor affect the cut-off of this year’s (for that matter any year’s) SSC CGL 2017 exam post wise cut-off.
Thus, cut-off is variable in nature and can change every year. However, the wider range would be in accordance with the above tabled cut-off.
As we discussed earlier in this article that the profile of auditor has three sub-profiles, and each sub-profile has different work environment. We will here discuss the job profile of each post.
If you are posted C & AG, you will be posted in the states AG office which is generally situated in a state capital or sometime into big city of the state.
The pay scale for all the post has been revised after the 7th Pay commission’s implementation. The pay scale of auditors has also seen an upward revision. The grade pay and in hand (approximate) salary for various posts of Auditor are tabled below for your reference.

Apart from pay commission revision there are Dearness Allowance revisions which are frequent and would be help in upgrading the salary. The DA hike is more or less takes place within a year’s gap.
As we discussed under the job profile that all the three posts of auditor involves posting anywhere across the country. Since there are office of AG, CAG in every state capital you would mostly be placed in capital city. Candidates opting for the post of auditors should keep in mind that transfer is a part of their job. However, later on your career you get to settle in the head offices in Delhi.
Auditor C & AG opportunities
Promotion wise this post is good. You can appear for SAS (Subordinate Account Service) exam after completion of 2 years of service as an Auditor. After clearing the exam you become Assistant Audit officer (AAO) with grade pay of INR 4800. In case you couldn’t clear the exam then you would have to wait for normal promotion which usually takes place after three years. The promotion chart for auditor in C & AG is listed below.
Only a few people are promoted to the level of AAG and DAG as it takes long-time.
In this post, there are two ways of getting a promotion. First by clearing SAS exam and second by regular departmental promotion. However, unlike CAG and C & AG the first promotion in CGDA takes six years as compared to three years in other two. Other promotions are similar to the auditor profile in CAG and C & AG.
The promotion path for CAG is similar with that of C & AG profile and involves both examination and regular mode of promotion with enhanced grade pay. The job profile, responsibility, and promotion profile are also similar with that of C & AG.
