SSC CGL 2019 Exam Pattern

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Pattern has not witnessed any major change over the years. SSC CGL comprises four tiers wherein Tier 1 and 2 are compulsory for all the posts.

SSC or Staff Selection Commission defines SSC CGL Syllabus for different tiers. The following article informs the aspirants about the exam mode, type of questions, medium of exam, marking scheme of CGL exam.  

Mentioned below are some quick facts for SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2019.

  • Tier I and Tier II of CGL exam will be conducted in online mode.
  • Tier III is a descriptive test to be conducted in pen and paper mode.
  • Tier IV is just conducted to test the proficiency in computer knowledge.
  • Duration of Tier 1 is 60 minutes, Tier 2 is 2 hours for each paper and for Tier 3 is 60 minutes.
  • As for SSC CGL Marking Scheme, for Tier 1, 3 and 4, 0.50 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. For Tier 2, 0.25 marks are deducted for each incorrect answer.  
  • Paper 1& 2 is compulsory for all the posts.
  • SSC CGL Paper 3 is compulsory only for the post of ‘Statistical Investigator Gr. II’ & ‘Compiler’.
  • Paper 4 is only for the post of ‘Assistant Audit Officer’.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2019 in Detail

As per the latest notifications by SSC, SSC CGL exam 2019 will be conducted in four levels, as mentioned below.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2019 – Tier 1

SSC CGL Tier I is mandatory for all the posts and its marks are added for further process as well. It is an objective exam comprising 200 questions to be completed in 75 minutes.

Candidates who clear SSC CGL cut off for Tier-1 are eligible to appear for Tier II exam. All the important details for SSC CGL Tier-1 exam have been tabulated below.

The exam comprises negative marking as well. 50 marks will be deducted from the total marks acquired by candidates for every incorrect answer.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2019 - Tier 2

SSC CGL exam pattern 2019 Tier II comprises two papers, both of which are conducted on the same day. One is, Quantitative Aptitude and the second one is English.

Tier 2 exam of SSC CGL is comparatively tough as compared to Tier 1 exam. It is also an objective exam of 2 hours duration comprising 800 marks.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2019 – Tier 3

Tier III is a descriptive test to be conducted in pen and paper mode. It is a one hour offline test comprising 100 marks.

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Pattern – Tier 4

Tier 4 is just conducted to test the proficiency in computer knowledge. It is only qualifying in nature.

SSC CGL 2019 Marking Scheme

SSC CGL 2019 consists of both online and offline based tests. Tier 1, 2 and 4 are online computer based exam, Tier 3 is descriptive written pen and paper examination. No personal interviews will be conducted in SSC CGL from 2016.

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Pattern for Tier IV

Tier IV of SSC CGL 2019 exam is qualifying in nature.

SSC CGL 2019: Compilation of Final Merit

  • The merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III.
  • Candidates need to qualify all the tiers i.e. Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III of SSC CGL 2019 separately.
  • There will be no sectional cut-off.

Section Wise Tips to Prepare for SSC CGL 2019

For General Intelligence & Reasoning:

  • This section is very scoring and less time consuming so candidates need to focus more on this section.
  • Make General Intelligence & Reasoning your main weapon in the exam.

For English Language:

  • This part is easy to score & less time consuming.
  • In this section, candidates need to focus more on some scoring topics like One Word Substitution, Errors, Miss Spelt Words, Comprehension and Cloze Test.

For Quantitative Aptitude:

  • Candidates need to save time in the written exam for solve this section.
  • As this part takes more time to solve the problems, candidates are advised to save time from Reasoning, English & General Awareness.
  • Only after practicing more & more Questions, the habit of recognize nature of question by mere seeing it can come.

For General Awareness:

  • Candidates can focus more study of General Science.
  • Candidates can cover syllabus according to their strength as questions are to be ask from History, Current Affairs, Geography, Polity, Economy.
  • Focus on Questions asked in Previous Year Papers.
