UPSC Recruitment 2017: 110 Vacancies for Forest Services at

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC IFS) recruitment notification for 110 Indian Forest Service Examination has announced. Online Application Form for UPSC IFS Recruitment 2017 is released on official website The eligible candidate can apply through UPSC official website before March 17, 2017. The application fee is INR 100/-. However, there is no fee for SC/ST/PH and female candidates.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of written test and shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview. UPSC has also announced the prelims and mains 2017 exam date, it will be held on June 18, 2017 while the UPSC mains exam is scheduled for December 3, 2017.

UPSC Recruitment 2017 Eligibility Criteria

All the aspirants are advised to carefully go through the individual eligibility criteria before they apply online.

Educational Qualification

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age limit

Minimum 21 years and below 32 years as on 1st August 2017. Upper age limit is relaxable up to 05 years for Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe, 03 years for Other Backward Classes and for others upper age limit is relaxable as per Govt rules.


A candidate must be either: -

  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

UPSC Recruitment 2017 How to Apply

Candidates can apply for various posts through the online recruitment application portal of UPSC. The last date for Forest Services application is March 17, 2017.

  1. Visit the official website of UPSC i.e.
  2. Go to the recruitment tab and click on the Online Recruitment Application link.
  3. Click on ‘New Registration’ and registration form will appear on your screen.
  4. Candidates need to fill up the personal details such as Name, DOB, Email Id, Password, Mobile number etc. to register themselves.
  5. Make the payment through debit/ credit card/ net-banking or by E-challan submit at any SBI branch.
  6. Complete the further details in the application form. Candidate needs to fill up the educational qualification, upload the required documents in the application form.
  7. Click on the submit button and take a printout of the form for its further usage.

Application Fee

The application fee is INR 100/- for general & OBC candidates. SC/ST/PH and female candidates are exempted from application fee.

UPSC Recruitment 2017 Selection Process

Candidates will be selected on the basis of performance in Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview.

The Indian Forest Service Examination will consist of two successive stages-

  1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination; and
  2. Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the Indian Forest Service.

Applications are now invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates who will be declared by the Commission to have qualified for admission to the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination will have to apply again, in the Online Detailed Application Form which would be made available on the Website of the Commission after declaration of Results of Preliminary Examination. The Main Examination is scheduled to be held on December 3, 2017. The Main Examination will be held on the following Centres: Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, Port Blair and Shimla.

The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is expected to be approximately 110. The number of vacancies is liable to alteration. Reservation will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Physically Handicapped Categories in respect of vacancies as may be fixed by the Government.

UPSC Recruitment 2017 Indian Forest Service Functions

UPSC is the body which conducts such type of examination. India is the 1st country to introduce scientific forest management. Its first college was established in 1938 at Dehradun and the training is given at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy. The training is given on forest, wild life management, and soil conservation and handling weapons. After a candidate qualifies in the main examination and interview, he is given training and then given a degree in Forestry. Then they have to work in the field of forestry as well as wildlife. They are given a handsome salary as IAS officers.
