VITEEE comprises 120 questions asked from the five different subjects named as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and English. The duration of the exam is 2 hours 30 minutes.
VITEEE Exam is held through computer-based mode in English language only. For each correct answer, 1 mark will be allotted. There is no negative marking.
VITEEE 2018 Answer Key is accessible online after the exam. The answer key is available for 3 subjects viz. Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology. With the help of VITEEE answer key, every student has the option to estimate their approximate score. The official answer keys is published at vit.ac.in, so students can calculate the answer in their own way. Some coaching institutes also provide unofficial VITEEE Answer Key which are made by their subject experts. Candidates can use the answer keys for the following reasons:
Candidates can even challenge the answer key if they find any discrepancy. The challenges against the answer key will be referred to the exam board committees constituted by VIT University.
In order to access VITEEE 2018 answer key, candidates have to visit the website and follow the steps:
The total number of questions available in VITEEE for candidates to answer in Part-I, Part-II and Part-III were 40 each, total of 120 questions. The marks assigned to each correct question was 1 in all the parts, and the total marks that the candidate had to score in each part were 40. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The following table represents the allotment of total marks for each part and section and marks allocated for each question. The total marks allocated for the entire examination was 120.
|Part||Section||Total Number of Questions||Marks for each question||Total Marks|
|Part – I||Physics||40||1||40|
|Part – II||Chemistry||40||1||40|
|Part – III||Mathematics/ Biology||40||1||40|
VITEEE Result 2018 will only state the rank attained by candidates. To find the rank of the candidate, the university does not use the traditional cut off method. Instead, the equating methodology is used. It is a statistical process that is used to adjust scores on test forms (that are approximately equivalent) so that scores on the forms can be used interchangeably. Thus, equating is used to adjust scores of candidates who have taken different forms of a test, in order to facilitate meaningful and fair comparison for merit list and ranking of these candidates.
The statistical procedure of Equipercentile Equating would be used to identify the percentile ranks for candidates, such that scores on different forms with the same percentile rank are considered to be equivalent. Thus, Percentile Rank is a unique and invariant position of the test taker in that group. A percentile Rank, say 90 Percentile Rank denotes that there are 90 percent of test takers scores below this score level and 10 percent above this test score.
VIT university will define the percentile rank of the candidates. On the basis of the percentile and rank, candidates will be called for VITEEE Counselling.
Here are some viewpoints of aspirants who appeared for VITEEE 2018:
1. An aspirant from Nasik, Maharashtra, who took VITEEE says that all the papers were easy to answer when compared to that of JEE Main 2016. The questions from subjects like Chemistry and Physics were found to be average, but he found that the questions appearing in the Mathematics paper were the toughest to answer. Overall, the papers were good. The aspirant has tried to attempt all the questions in all three parts namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. He expects a good score and he is hoping for the best.
2. Another student reveals that VITEEE Question Paper can be rated as average and Chemistry was easier to answer, which was expected. All papers carried questions that were concept based. He was strong in Physics as well, hence, he could solve all the topics that he studied for JEE Main 2016. He tried to solve each and every question and aims to gain a good rank. The only difference that he found between the two examinations of JEE Main and VITEEE was that there were a few topics which were not included in JEE Advanced course, but had to be studied for VITEEE 2018.
Some questions in sections I & II were easy while some were of medium difficulty level. In Mathematics, the questions were tough. Subject-wise break up of easy, medium and tough questions in all the parts is reflected in the following table:
|Level of Difficulty||Physics – Part – I||Chemistry – Part – II||Mathematics/ Biology – Part – III||Total|
|Number of easy questions||30||20||-||60|
|Number of medium questions||10||20||5||25|
|Number of difficult questions||-||-||35||35|
VITEEE cut off is calculated on the basis of various factors such as number of received application forms, number of students who appeared for VITEEE, number of seats available and average performance given by the students. Cut off for both the campuses will be released separately, based on the availability of seats.
VIT University does not announce any VITEEE Cutoff. However, to predict the ranks of the candidates in VITEEE exam, the university uses Equating Method. VIT University calculates the percentile rank of the candidates based on the test forms of candidates. For different test forms, the same percentile score is considered equivalent. However, it can be considered as the closing rank for admission to various courses in engineering. Candidates can choose between Chennai and Vellore campus. Admission is granted on the basis of rank list. This rank list is prepared on the basis of a candidate’s percentile.
VIT University will calculate the percentile rank of the candidate based on the application form the candidates. For different application forms, same percentile score will equivalent for all branch of the engineering. Below is the VITEEE Branch and Campus Wise Closing Rank for the Engineering Branch candidates.
Candidates securing a rank will be eligible for admissions in VIT Vellore Campus. The closing rank for Computer Science and Engineering (with Bioinformatics as specialization) went up till 13500 (2016) while for Computer Science and Engineering, it went up till 7000 (2016). Candidates can refer to the below table to know more about the closing ranks in Vellore campus of VIT.
