Ans. Yes, I took coaching classes for short term (45 days) from ACE Hyderabad. It played a very major role in my GATE score. The short term coaching was very intensive. It was from 6.30AM to 8.30PM for 45 days excluding Sundays. It looks very difficult to sit for such long hours. But the lecturers were very highly talented and you feel beauty of the subjects. You feel very interested towards the subject. Generally in local B.Tech colleges, you don’t get much knowledge through all your lecturers. So, you feel very disinterest in those subjects. But once you attend such coaching classes, you will find very motivated. It played a very major role.

Taking the mock test is difficult because, you should spare continuously 3 hours for the tests. It needs lot of patience. One should take these mock tests plenty. This will help in time management. It plays key role in deciding your GATE score.
Ans. Well undoubtedly two which I liked
1) IITs and IISc e-learning Courses in Engineering and Science under NPTEL (Since prepared by eminent faculty and high quality content!)
2) Doubt Point Awesome concept !! mini Quora/stackoverflow for GATE I could say.. post doubt, get answer with picture, youtube videos and LateX equation) Moreover, you can search doubts and leading coaching classes have recently begun to answer doubts on doubtpoint !! One more thing I liked it has study group and auto classification algorithm where doubts will be segregated automatically. Though recent one highly recommended!!

Ans. M.Tech in EC (Electronics and Communications)
Ans. I prepared mainly from textbooks. First be thorough with the textbooks. Do not for nonstandard books which looks easy. Basics are well written in standard books, here are few suggestions from me for different subjects
Communication: B P Lathi, Simon Haykins, and Schaum's series
Networks: Hyat, and M.E. Valkenberg
Digital Electronics: Morris Mano
Electronic Devices and circuits: Millman Halkias, Sedra and Smith
Signal and Systems:
Engineering Mathematics: B S Grewal or Jain and Iyenger
Practice problems for all subjects: R K kanodia
Ans. The GATE Exam has around 10 subjects in each of its specializations and hence, it is difficult to prepare for the GATE exam in one or two months. You must preplan your studies for the exam at least 3 or 4 months before the GATE Exam. Those who are attempting the GATE examination for the first time will always fear it by just looking at number of subjects.
It is obvious that you should give enough time to prepare for the GATE exam. Aspirants must do proper analysis of the GATE syllabus, such as to know the subjects, topics of each subject, and identify the order of subjects for preparation. Key Points in Oder to Prepare for GATE
|GATE Exam Pattern||GATE Syllabus||GATE Paper Analysis|
Ans. In the beginning it is required that you keep your attention focused towards GATE, so selection of subjects plays a very crucial role. Start your preparation with good beginning so that you will have successful completion at the end. Begin your preparation with known subject where you have good knowledge on it. Save your preparation time only preparing relevant topics of GATE syllabus instead of preparing whole book.
Ans. It is advisable that you do not try attempting a difficult subject in the beginning of preparation because understanding the concepts of the subjects where you don’t have an interest can make demotivate for preparing GATE.
On the other hand, if you choose a very easy subject and not important for GATE, you may end up spending too much time in its preparation and waste a lot more time than required. Hence, your aim should be to select a subject which is of medium difficulty for you and important subject in GATE.
Ans. Number of hours may vary from person to person for preparing for GATE. If you have already prepared all the subjects for previous GATE Exam, you may need to spend 2 to 3 hours for revision and practicing. It is a good idea to spend at least 5 to 6 hours for GATE preparation if you are attempting seriously.
In case you are preparing the GATE exam for the first time, then you’d definitely require to put in more effort and number of hours in order to get comfortable with the pattern and syllabus.
Ans. For a few subjects, preparing from one book may be sufficient. In GATE exam, the syllabus may be such that for a few subjects all the topics may not be covered in one text book. It may happen that the given information for a particular topic may not be sufficient in the same book. So choosing book and understanding syllabus of GATE exam is very important to decide whether one or two books are required for the subject. Hence, it is advisable that you choose one or more text books based on the importance of the subject and the topics covered in it.
Ans. If you have a good knowledge base in computer science it will take a minimum of 3 months for the GATE preparation. If you are studying in the final year in under graduation, it will definitely take you more time.
It is necessary to start from the beginning of your final year of graduation and try to spend a minimum of 2 hours for preparation of GATE.
Ans. There is a difference between coaching institute material, standard books, and online resources. If you prefer good coaching institute material, you may find the content only related to the syllabus but those materials may not have sufficient information.
If you read text books, you will find a lot of information. It is highly suggested when you have enough time to face the GATE Exam and you are preparing self.
Studying through online resources. In online three is lot of material available, so select necessary and good material. Quizzes and preparation material available online will help you to practice regularly and prepare well.
Ans. Joining in a coaching institute is not necessary, but it may guide you in the right direction when you are not able to identify your path for preparation. In case you are studying and cannot find to enroll yourself in a regular coaching class, you may also refer to online communities/ blogs like Facebook, Quora, google, Gradestack etc. where you can discuss with experts and get regular guidance on your preparation.
Ans. Join the GATE communities where you can discuss all doubts while preparing for the GATE. Follow these simple steps to prepare for GATE.
Ans. I started thinking about GATE from the third year of my UG. Back then it could be attempted in the pre-final year also. I decided to appear for it in my third year.
I started preparing from December (exam was in Feb). I tried to corner out 5-6 most important subjects and made sure that I cover each and every portion in those. I used to spend my time effectively in trying to juggle between aptitude and maths too. This portion in the GATE paper is very important as it accounts to 30% marks. I had covered 60% of the portions by Jan end.
In the first attempt I did well. I wanted to give a bigger short in the next year. I started preparing more diligently. I took up a lot of mock tests and analyzed my strength and weaknesses. The more and more you practice, confidence develops in you and you will be able to attempt more questions. Do not put doubt full answers as it will have negative marking. The marks you obtained by correct answers will be lost with the wrong answers. So avoid this.
At the least try to hit minimum 50/100 score in your mock tests. This builds up your confidence very much. I tried this during my mock test and resulted positive in GATE 2010.
Try maintaining time while writing mock tests at home. Don’t get distracted. Spend complete time allocated to the test at a stretch. Check the subjects with more weightage in previous papers and build up your strength in those subjects. Take advantage from aptitude and reasoning questions. ALL THE BEST
