GATE 2021 result will be declared tentatively in the second week of March, 2022. Conducted by either one of the seven zonal IITs in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, GATE 2021 will likely be organised by IIT Bombay based on rotation policy. The result will be released online at the official website of IIT Bombay; https://gate.iitb.ac.in/.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an entrance exam for admission into the masters of various programs of subjects like Engineering, Architecture, and Technology. Cracking this exam can also get one a job at some of the largest PSUs (Public Sector Unit) in India. Result of this examination is valid for 3 years. There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can take this exam or an upper age limit.

GATE exam is a 3 hours long paper and divided into sections such as General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics (depending on the paper selected), and Verbal Ability. The paper is out of 100 marks in total with 65 questions. Candidates can expect two types of questions; Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
As the level of the GATE exam is postgraduate, there are many sub fields in which students can sit. 25 subjects in which GATE is conducted are:
|Aerospace Engineering (AE)||Agricultural Engineering (AG)||Biotechnology (BT)||Civil Engineering (CE)|
|Chemical Engineering (CH)||Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)||Electronics and Communication (EC)||Electrical Engineering (EE)|
|Instrumentation Engineering (IN)||Mechanical Engineering (ME)||Metallurgical Engineering (MT)||Mining Engineering (MN)|
|Petroleum Engineering (PE)||Production and Industrial Engineering (PI)||Textile Engineering and Fiber Science (TF)||Engineering Sciences (XE)|
Although there are 25 papers in which a candidate can take the exam, few subjects receive much more applications compared to others. Since it is not possible to accommodate all candidates taking the test on these subjects, the exam is conducted in more than one session. These papers are:
As multiple sessions mean multiple papers, it is reasonable to conclude that the level of difficulty may also differ. A process of normalization is therefore employed to ensure equity. We have explained in detail how Score Calculation in GATE works to help you understand the method better.
The conducting body of GATE will release the response sheet of the candidates shortly after the examination; second week of February, 2022. The response sheet is a record of all the answers entered by the candidate at the time of the exam. This can be downloaded from the website by following the given steps below:
Apart from the options selected by the candidate at the time of the examination, following details can be found on the response sheet:
IIT Bombay will release the answer key shortly after making the response sheet available for download; by the third week of February, 2022. Answer key is the document containing all the correct answers for each of the 25 papers. The answer key released will only be a provisional one. After evaluation of feedback, the final one will be released. The answer key can be used by students to calculate their score. Candidates can download the same by following these steps:
Students will find the following details mentioned in the answer sheet:
After publication of the provisional answer key, candidates can challenge the answers provided by the official body if they find any answers to be erroneous. The online process for the same starts roughly by the third week of February, 2022. After submitting your responses, it will be reviewed for accuracy before publishing the final answer key. A charge of INR 500 is applicable per objection raised and refundable only if the claims made by the candidate regarding the objection(s) are found to be legitimate.
Follow the steps given below if you wish to challenge the answer key:
Note: No edits will be entertained after the submission of your ojections.
Refer to the marking pattern already described to calculate your score. Match your response sheet with the answer key.
IIT Bombay will upload the scorecard on GOAPS portal. It is given to a candidate who has qualified for the exam with the minimum qualifying marks. This is an important document required during the admission process in all institutions that accept GATE score and even required for recruitment in PSUs. It is valid for 3 years. Candidates who fail to download the score card with the dates of its availability can download the same by paying a certain charge.
You can download the the scorecard if you have qualified by following the steps mentioned below:
You will find the following details mentioned on your scorecard:
Candidates interested in counselling have to apply separately for CCMT and COAP counselling. It will be conducted in 5 rounds.
COAP: It is the Common Offer Acceptance Portal where all IITsupload their offer letters for admission. Candidates seeking admission into M.Tech programs can register at the official website coap.iitm.ac.in
CCMT: The Centralized Counselling for M.Tech, is a platform where candidates have to register for admission into M.Tech programs in NITs, IIITs. GFTIs and CFTIs. Seat confirmation fee and other charges have to be paid. Registration fee is INR 2200 for OC/OB and 1700 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Candidates must bring these documents along with them during the counselling process:
