Preparation for General Aptitude in GATE 2017

GATE 2017 question paper has General Aptitude section to test the analytical and language skill of the candidate and cover 15% of the test paper. General Aptitude section is of 15 marks and the marks are distributed as follows.

How to Answer MCQs & Non MCQs

GATE 2017 will be a computer based test conducted in online mode. The question paper will have two types of questions i.e. Multiple Choice Questions and Numerical Answer Type Questions. Students have to use the virtual keyboard while attempting Numerical type questions.

GATE 2017 exam will be of 3 hours and the question paper will have 65 questions of total 100 marks. Candidates have to use the virtual keyboard to enter the answer for all the multiple choice and numerical type questions and will not be allowed to use computer keyboard as it will be disabled. Students will be provided a scribble pad to do rough work and these pads have to be submitted after the examination.

GATE 2017 question paper will have two types of questions i.e. Multiple Choice Questions and Numerical Type questions.

  1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): Multiple choice questions will be objective in nature and each question will have four options and one correct answer. Candidate has to select one option for one question.
  2. Numerical Answer Type (NAT): These types of question will have answer in real numbers and the answer has to be entered through virtual keyboard. These questions will be of 1 or 2 marks.

What to do with Unknown/Unprepared Topics

GATE paper have negative marking scheme any wrong answer will cost candidate few marks which could be disastrous eventually. In order to avoid it candidate must focus on the topics he/she is strong in and attempt all the questions related to those topics.

Preparing any unknown topic at the last moment is not a wise decision and will not yield any productive result. It will only waste the time.

Paper Wise Important Topics

The two of the most significant topics of GATE exam are Engineering Mathematics and General Ability and together they hold total of 30 marks. Candidates can easily score in engineering mathematics and general ability in comparison to other technical topics.

Paper-wise important topics:

Information Technology and Computer Science:  Data Structures and Programming, Theory of Computation, Digital Logic, Operating system and Computer Networks.

Electronics and Communication Engineering: Signals and Systems, Networks, Control Systems, Electromagnetic, Digital Electronics, EDC, Analog Circuits and Communications.

Mechanical Engineering: Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Science, Fluid Mechanics,   Thermal Science, and Strength of Materials.

Electrical Engineering: Control System, Network Theory, Power System, Power Electronics, Electrical Machine, and Signal and Systems.

Importance of Formulae & Footnotes

GATE Syllabus is very vast syllabus and includes lots of formulas hence all the candidates are advised to prepare a separate notebook for formulas which will definitely proved to be very helpful to revise the formulae right before the commencement of GATE 2017.
