IIT Delhi M.Tech Admission Criteria and GATE Cutoff 2021

    IIT Delhi offers M.Tech admissions based on GATE entrance examination. Students are admitted based on their overall performance in GATE entrance and personal interview conducted by IIT Delhi. 

    • GATE 2021 is set to be conducted on February 5-7, 2021 and February 12-14, 2021.
    • The students must apply for admissions at IIT Delhi official website along with participating in the GATE Counselling process.
    • GATE participating institutes will release their cutoffs list and the students would be required to participate in the counselling process conducted online.

    IIT Delhi M. Tech Eligibility Criteria

    IIT Delhi offers the M. Tech. courses part-time as well as full time. The eligibility criteria for the courses has been given below:

    • For admission to the M. Tech full time course at IIT Delhi, the candidate must have completed a BE/B. Tech./M. Sc. course with 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale, or equivalent. The candidate must also have a qualifying GATE score.
    • For admission to the part-time M. Tech. course at IIT Delhi, the candidate must have completed a BE/B. Tech./M. Sc. course. The candidate must also have a work experience of minimum 6 months post qualification.

    IIT Delhi M. Tech Admission Process 2021

    The IIT Delhi M. Tech application process takes place through the online mode. The eligible candidates must apply at the IIT Delhi PG Admission Portal for the M. Tech course. The fee for the application form is Rs. 200 for the General/OBC candidates.

    • Candidates must have cleared the GATE exam in order to be eligible for the M. Tech admissions at IIT Delhi. So, they need to register for the exam well in time and appear in it.
    • After the candidates have qualified the exam, they also need to register for GATE COAP 2021 Counselling. Only the registered candidates receive admission offers.
    • Candidates need to upload the required documents and pay the COAP registration fee.
    • The seats are allotted over several rounds in the COAP Counselling.
    • When a candidate is offered a seat at COAP, they can choose from the three available options - “Accept and Freeze”, “Retain and Wait” or “Reject and Wait”.
    • The candidates will be required to confirm their acceptance of the seat and pay the admission fee of the course at the allotted institute.
    • The candidates shall be invited for a written test and personal interview at IIT Delhi before the final selection is made.

    IIT Delhi M. Tech Admission: Written Test and Interview

    The shortlisted candidates are required to appear in a written test and a personal interview at IIT Delhi to make it to the list of the finally selected candidates.

    • IIT Delhi Written Test: The written test shall carry a weight of 10% (which may vary according to the IIT Delhi Admission guidelines each year). The syllabus for the test and other relevant details would be available on the official website of the institute.
    • IIT Delhi Interview: The personal interview carries a weightage of 30% (which may vary according to the admission rules each year). The interviewing team would consist of about 5 to 6 interviewers. The candidates must prepare well with their choice of subject.

    IIT Delhi M.Tech Admission FAQs

    Ques. Is M.Tech(CB) a specialisation under M.Tech(CSE)?

    Ans. No, M.Tech, computational biology, often known as M.Tech(CB) is a different programme. M.Tech CB program integrates applicable knowledge from biology, computation and mathematics as well.

    Ques. Can I apply for more than one programme?

    Ans. Yes, you can apply for M.Tech(CB) with M.Tech(CSE) or M.Tech(ECE). However you can’t apply for both M.Tech(CSE) & (ECE).

    Please note that the online application portal will allow you to apply for a single or a combination of two programmes. If you are applying for a combination of two programmes, you will be allowed to attend a written test and interview for both the programmes, if shortlisted for both. However, the final admission and award of the degree will be only to one programme.

    For candidates applying for a combination of two programmes, the application fees of Rs. 700/ will be charged.

    Ques. Is GATE score mandatory for IIT Delhi M.Tech admissions?

    Ans.Yes, an applicant must have a valid GATE score for admissions.

    Ques. I have a GATE in CS/IT or EC/EE but my B.Tech is other than CS/IT/EC/EE. Am I eligible for M.Tech(CSE) and M.Tech(ECE)?

    Ans. No. It is written in the eligibility criteria that IIT Delhi will only accept B.Tech in CS/IT/ECE/EE.
