BARC Recruitment through GATE 2020, Eligibility, Selection Process, Vacancies, and Cutoff

    Bhabha Atomic Research Centre recruits graduate engineers every year through GATE. It offers two training programs for selected candidates i.e. OCES & DGFS. The selection of candidates is based on Online Screening Test,  Marks Obtained in  GATE followed by Personal/Selection Interview.  

    • BARC online test has been conducted successfully from March 13 to 19, 2020.
    • The last date to upload GATE Scorecards i.e. April 1, 2020 is also over. However, candidates can still download their scorecards from the official website of GATE.  Download GATE Scorecard
    • The dates of all the further events like the Display of Shortlisted candidates for the interview round, booking of interview slot, etc have been postponed till further notice. The decision has been taken due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and lockdown. 

    Since BARC online test has been concluded, the authorities will use  GATE Cut-off  of those candidates who had scored well to shortlist for the Selection Interviews. However, screening of applicants in Nuclear Engineering (code 29) will be done only through the Online Test. After the final process, candidates will be appointed in all the units shall be as a Scientific Officer (C) in Level 10 at Grade Pay of Rs. 56,100 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix.

    BARC Eligibility Criteria

    Eligibility Criteria for BARC 2020

    • Below is the list of BARC 2020 eligible disciplines with their codes:
    BARC Disciplines
    • Those having M.Sc. (by research) or Ph.D. are not eligible. 
    • A minimum of 60% marks are required in the qualifying degree. 
    • Age Limit – Age as on August 1, 2020 – General Category - 26 years, OBC-29 years, SC/ST–31 years
    • Dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984 (Dep1984) -31 years
    • Persons domiciled in Kashmir Division of Jammu & Kashmir State from 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989 (Dom Kashmir) – 31 years.
    • Physically Challenged persons of all categories are eligible for age relaxation of 10 years.
    • Nationality: Applicant must be a citizen of India.
    • Applicants working in State Government Units/ PSUs/ Central/ Aided Institutes should produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their organization at the time of Selection Interview, failing which they may not be interviewed.

    Steps to Apply for BARC

    BARC Application Process – How to Apply? 

    The application process includes the following steps:

    Step 1 – Registration

    Candidates had to enter the following

    • Applied Discipline (ie. Examination Discipline)
    • Qualifying Degree
    • Name, Mother’s Name, DOB
    • Email ID, Mobile number

    After registration, an OTP was sent to the candidate’s registered mobile number and an activation link was sent to the registered e-mail id. Candidates could activate their application either by clicking that link or by using the “Activate through OTP” option in the portal. The candidate could proceed further after the activation of the application.

    Step 2 – Filling the application form

    • Personal Information: Candidates had to enter their personal details, address, etc. They must also upload their signature and photograph also.
    • Academic Information: Candidates have to enter details of their Class 10th, 12th, relevant degree details, and Additional Qualifications.

    Signature2 x 4.5 cmshould not exceed 20KB

    Step 3 – Screening Information

    • Candidates can choose the exam centers for the online exam. 
    • Candidates who select GATE must upload their GATE scorecard along with their application form by April 1, 2020.

    Step 4 – Payment

    • The application fees should be paid before the final submission of the application form.

    BARC Selection Process

    BARC Recruitment through GATE – Selection Process

    • Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in GATE and BARC Online test.
    • Shortlisted candidates have to appear in a personal interview.
    • Candidates can choose their interview slots by visiting the official website.
    • Carry original certificates along with a set of copies.
    • Selection Interviews of short-listed candidates will be conducted in Mumbai or some other city.
    • Outstation applicants will be paid two-way second-class sleeper train fare, from their registered residential address, by shortest route or actual fare whichever is less.
    • Candidates who will clear the interview will be selected as a Scientific Officer.

    As in GATE 2014, the formulae to calculate GATE score has changed. As a result, GATE score is more in 2014 as compared to 2013. For each branch, GATE Score has increased.     Candidate must know that PSU Cutoff is not only dependent on GATE entrance examination. There are various factors on which cutoff marks depend. Candidates can go through following points which affects the PSU cutoff marks:

    Ques: How can I apply for BARC 2020 recruitment process?

    Ans: All the candidates are advised to visit the official website of BARC i.e There you have to click on the recruitment link then a new window will appear. Click on apply online for BARC recruitment. It will take you a new window where you have to select a stream and then you can apply for BARC recruitment. The last to apply for BARC is Feb 3, 2020.

    Ques: What is the amount that I need to pay online?

    Ans: The online fee is INR 500 which is applicable to male candidates from General and OBC categories. Women candidates of SC/ST, dependents of defense personals killed in action, physically challenged are exempted to pay the fee. 

    Ques: I will appear for GATE 2020 so can I apply before the declaration of my result?

    Ans: Candidates who are due to appear for GATE-2020 can also apply. If a candidate is eligible in all other respects but is awaiting final results will be allowed to commence course work. But his/her retention in the OCES or DGFS programs is subject to the mark-sheet of final result that should meet the eligibility requirements of the OCES/ DGFS programs and should be submitted by Nov 30, 2020.
