STATE LEVEL ONLINE TEST
The demand for seats in admission to dental and medical colleges for COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) has increased tremendously. If we talk about figures, the applications received for COMEDK is 14,512 for 1,400 seats. The seats are bifurcated among 13 private medical colleges and 23 private dental colleges of the state.

It is been said that the demand has been increased more than consortium has expected. COMEDK received 14,512 applications in just three days of online portal getting opened. In earlier years, COMEDK used to receive applications from across the country, too, but this year the students has applied in a major chunk for attaining medical and dental seats.
Approximately 4.09 Lakh candidates has qualified NEET, this year. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET is an entrance examination which is conducted annually for admissions to Medical and Dental courses in government or private medical colleges across the country. NEET 2016 was held in two phases this year. NEET mandate is new and has been implemented after lot of confusion and discussions and NEET score will be considered for admission to medical and dental courses across the country. This might act as a reason that large number of students across the country are applying for COMEDK.
Another reason for receiving large number of applications is that candidates do not have to register separately for different colleges as 36 colleges of Karnataka comes under a single banner of COMEDK. Since, deemed universities and colleges are still not out with any notification on admissions or calendar of events, this also can serve as a reason for hike in the number of applications.

Please Note: If the candidate loses the allotment letter, he/she will lose the selected seat.
The consequence of steep increase in number of applications may result in a drawback to the state candidates as aspirants from outside the state also has a provision to participate in COMEDK counselling. Since, all the medical aspirants who has written NEET exam can apply, the competition for gaining seats will get tougher.
The last date to apply for COMEDK is August 23 and the consortium will publish a merit list, once all the applications are submitted.
