NATIONAL LEVEL ONLINE TEST
National Institute of Fashion Technology, NIFT conducts its entrance exam under the same name every year for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to fashion technology. The written test of NIFT 2017 was successfully conducted on February 12, 2017 in pen paper mode. The duration of the paper was 180 for Creative Ability Test and 120 minutes for General Ability Test. The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of marks scored by them in CAT and GAT. The marks will be awarded out of a total of 200. The shortlisted candidates will now be called for the next round of selection process i.e. Situation Test that is scheduled in the month of April-May, 2017.
Situation Test is conducted to examine candidates’ innovative and creative instinct. The test demands candidates to make a 3d model from the available materials. The idea for the model is to be selected from listed options.
The Situation Test is conducted after written test for B.Des aspirants. Along with the model, candidates are also required to write a caption and a description related to their model. Marks will be awarded based on visualization of space, creative & innovative use of the material, composition of elements, color model, building skill, finesse of the creation and overall presentation. The write up will be worth 30 per cent of the total marks and should explain the concept and idea behind the creation. Write up is to be submitted in English only.
The Group Discussion is conducted for M.Des. Aspirants. The Discussion is conducted as a case study where the candidates are formed in groups of 15-20. Each group is given a topic, preferably trending topic or topic of national and international importance. The duration of Group Discussion is 15-20 minutes.
The main aim of Group Discussion in NIFT is to check candidates’ confidence and how well they share their points with others. It also checks the convincing power of the candidates including their awareness about their own country and abroad.
The Personal Interview is scheduled post the successful conduct of Group Discussion. The main aim of personal interview is to introduce the candidate to panel on a more personal level. The questions in interview range from personal information to their academic history and their professional background.
The candidates being interviewed by the panel are judged on several parameters such as career orientation, personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities and creative and lateral thinking.
