NATIONAL LEVEL OFFLINE TEST
National Institute of Design (NID) conducts Design Aptitude Test (DAT) each year to select candidates for their various programs in Master of Design (M.Des.), Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), and Graduate Diploma Program in Design (GDPD). NID DAT takes place in two steps: Prelims and Mains. The Prelims round will be held across 23 cities of India, and based on the candidates’ marks in Prelims, candidates will be shortlisted for Mains, which take place in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Guwahati campuses. The last date to fill the online form is November 28, 2016.
The Prelims will be held on January 8, 2017. It will be of three hours’ duration (10 AM to 1 PM). DAT Prelims consists of two parts: MCQ questions marked out of 70 marks, and subjective questions that are marked out of 30 marks, making a total of 100 marks.

The date for DAT Mains will be announced after the declaration of Prelims NID 2017 Results. For M.Des., it will consist of two parts, a studio test containing different formats like drawing, model making, etc. This will be marked out of 100 marks. After the studio test, an interview will be taken.
For B.Des. and GDPD, there will be no interview and Mains will only consist of Studio Test. The Mains for B.Des. and GDPD will be taken in NID Ahmedabed.
The total weightage of Prelims as well as Mains will be considered for NID admission. After the NID entrance exam, a merit list will be made for each category (Open, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD). For NID sample papers, NID result, and NID registration, candidates should visit the official website of the University.
NID DAT 2017 (Prelims) will be held across 23 cities in India on 8th January 2017. Based on the marks obtained by the candidate in Prelims, as well as the candidate’s choice of specialty, the candidate will then be given a different test center for NID DAT (Mains). The candidates who aspire to take admission to B.Des. or M.Des. programs offered by the University must select their city of choice for the Prelims round at the time of filling the application form.
Candidates who apply under overseas category for M.Des. and B.Des. programs will have to appear for the Prelims in person. Such candidates will have to give the Mains at NID, Ahmedabad.
Although the candidate’s preference while allotting the center is taken into consideration, NID does reserve the rights to add or remove any of the designated test centers, or to allot a test center that may not be the candidate’s choice. A single city might have more than one test centers. Once the candidate fills his/her preference of test center while filling the application form, no further request for change in test center will be entertained by the University.

If a candidate wishes to be considered for the merit list, the candidate must have appeared in all the tests in Prelims as well as Mains rounds.
For DAT Prelims: On the basis of marks obtained in DAT Prelims, a separate merit list will be prepared for Open, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD categories. The candidates will be marked out of 100 marks, which contain 70 marks for MCQ questions and 30 marks for subjective type questions.
For DAT Mains: Based on the merit list of Prelims, selected candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains. The number of shortlisted candidates will be more than or equal to three times the number of seats available per category. Same rank is awarded to any two candidates who score equal marks in DAT Mains. The candidates will be scored out of a total of 100 marks.
Final Merit List: The final merit list for M.Des., B.Des., and GDPD courses will be generated category-wise. It will be based on the sum total of weighted scores at each stage of the admission. The weightage of DAT Prelims and DAT Mains will be decided by the Senate of the Institute.
