The colleges and universities are shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But nothing to worry about as SWAYAM is offering the platform to complete courses and also avail credits.
The Education Minister, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has recently tweeted that 82 undergraduate and 42 post graduate Non-engineering MOOCs will be offered through SWAYAM online platform in July 2020 semester. The students will also be able to avail credit as per the UGC present regulations on credit framework for online learning courses.
The courses offered cover the subjects like Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, Education, Law, Commerce, Management, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, History, Hindi, Sanskrit, etc.
SWAYAM i.e Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds, is a program initiated by the Indian Government and is designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy which are access, equity and quality. As per the recommendations given by Dean Academics or Head of Department, the Vice-Chancellor of a University can approve or adopt the courses offered on SWAYAM.
It has been developed cooperatively by MHRD and AICTE and is equipped for facilitating over 2,000 courses. The platform offers courses from class 9 to post graduation and is free to access. Professors and faculty of centrally funded institutes like IIITs, IIMs, IISERs, etc will teach the students online. The number of students enrolling for SWAYAM courses is increasing rapidly after the country lockdown. MHRD has revealed that in April, over 26 lakh students have taken about 574 courses on SWAYAM.
