The QS Global MBA Rankings 2027 show IIM Bangalore falling to 64, IIM Ahmedabad to 70, and IIM Calcutta to 95. All three remain in the world's top 100, but sharp drops in return on investment scores dragged their overall positions down.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the QS Global Full-Time MBA Rankings 2027. The list is now live on the official QS portal at topuniversities.com. Three Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) feature in the global top 100 this year.

Only IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Calcutta made the cut for the top 100. All three have slipped from their ranks in the 2026 edition. A sharp fall in return on investment scores drove the decline for Indian schools.

QS Methodology and Key Indicators

The QS Global MBA Rankings use five weighted indicators to score each school. Employability and return on investment carry the highest weight. Entrepreneurship, thought leadership, and diversity make up the rest.

Each school receives a score for every indicator. QS then combines these into a single overall rank. Small shifts in one indicator can move a school by several positions.

Return on Investment Scores Record Sharp Fall

The steepest fall came in the return on investment indicator this year. The ROI metric weighs alumni salary gains against MBA programme cost. Stronger salary growth abroad and rising IIM fees hurt Indian scores.

Institution ROI Rank 2027 ROI Rank 2026
IIM Bangalore 181 to 190 band 53
IIM Ahmedabad 171 to 180 band 61 to 70 band
IIM Calcutta 201 to 250 band 84

Global peers are outpacing Indian schools on ROI and alumni outcomes. Entrepreneurship indicators are another weak area for the top IIMs. Both trends pushed their overall global ranks lower this year.

India's IIMs still score well on employability indicators. Placement outcomes for the top IIMs remain strong within Asia. This continues to attract MBA aspirants across the country.

India's Business School Footprint in 2027

India's presence in QS business rankings has more than tripled since 2020. However, only three Indian schools made the global top 100. The remaining Indian entries sit in bands outside the top 100.

India also fields 37 specialised business master's programmes across five subject areas. Management leads the list with 19 Indian entries. Supply Chain Management has the smallest presence at just two.

Business Master's Category Ranked Indian Programmes
Management 19
Finance 7
Business Analytics 5
Marketing 4
Supply Chain Management 2

The country now fields more ranked programmes than most Asian peers. This growth signals rising international interest in Indian management education. Rankings, however, remain sensitive to global salary and cost trends.

How to Check the QS MBA Rankings 2027?

Candidates can view the complete list on the official QS portal in a few steps.

  1. Visit the QS website at topuniversities.com/mba-rankings/global.
  2. Use the country filter to view Indian schools only.
  3. Click on any school to see indicator-wise scores.
  4. Compare programmes side by side using the on-site tool.

Why This Matters for MBA Aspirants

A lower ROI rank does not mean lower quality of education. It reflects salary and cost trends against a stronger global cohort. Indian IIMs still deliver the strongest MBA outcomes within Asia.

  2. Compare fees, placement salaries, and ROI data before shortlisting a school.
