Which university is better for a Masters in applied computer science, the University of Concordia, or the University of Dalhousie?

Meghdeepa Mondal Posted On : January 13th, 2021
Both the University of Concordia and University of Dalhousie are prestigious public colleges in Canada ranked at #477 and #215, respectively in the QS World Ranking List 2021. However, Masters in Applied Computer Science is a very tough course in Canada so you will need to weigh your own pros and cons. Concordia has an advantage over Dalhousie as it's placed in Montreal, which is popularly known for the Software Industry and has a lot of job opportunities. But be warned that the program here will be more difficult.  Other than that Concordia University holds brand new research laboratories and high engineering specialized IT equipment for the student's hands-on experience. Concordia's Applied Computer Science program mainly focuses on improving the theoretical and practical application skills among students.  Both universities have their own pros and cons. The ultimate decision lies in an individual's priority and choice. The table presented below provides a brief comparison of both the universities : DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY  CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY RANK  #291 QS World University 2021 #215 Round University Ranking 2020 # 477 QS World University 2021 #578 Round University Ranking 2020 ACCEPTANCE RATE  70%  49.3% COST TO STUDY  $15692  $19856 AVERAGE PACKAGE  MBA (87,000 USD); Bachelor of Science (67,000 USD);  Bachelor of Arts (55,000 USD); BBA (43,000 USD). $84,000 On the other hand, at the University of Dalhousie students get a wide level of practice. Which university is better for an undergraduate degree in fine arts with a biology minor, U of T, McGill, or Concordia University?

AM
Aniket Atul Mahulikar Posted On : January 13th, 2021
All three of these are counted among the most popular colleges in Canada. However, you can safely say Mcgill and UToronto have a better brand value due to their rankings (#25 and #31 respectively) as well as distinguished science programs. THE ranks them at #1 and #2 respectively in terms of graduate employability in Canada.  The Biology program offered by UToronto mainly emphasizes on the latest innovative edge technology and new clinical and research techniques. Whereas, Mcgill’s Biology program is purely research-based and introduces its students to the latest techniques and methodologies in the field of Biology. Students will have easy access to advanced laboratory services for more hands-on experience and research purposes.  The table below gives a detailed comparison of the three universities:  Parameters  University of Toronto  McGill University  Concordia University Ranking (QS WUR 2021) #25  #31  #477 Acceptance Rate  43%  45%  49.3% Cost to Study  $20379-47086 +$33702 (Hostel+Meal) $13470-34242+$29142 (Hostel+Meal) 13725-19856+21862 (Hostel+Meal) Placements for MS  (Average) $98,000  $100,000  $110,000   We can see that while the first two universities are pretty reputable, their acceptance rate and expenses are considerably higher than Concordia’s. Concordia University's undergraduate Biology program features Gene study, Organism physiology, Morphology, Anatomy Analysis, Cell study on the living system, and lots more.  While Concordia’s science programs are not as refined, it is also a great alternative because of its cost and placements. Overall, it depends on your personal preferences.

Sounak Banerjee Posted On : January 12th, 2021
Concordia University provides the students with a variety of possible paths to a degree with over 200-degree programs and 7,000 courses that offer a unique and rewarding educational experience. If your IELTS overall score is above 6.5 and also happens to have a 2-year work experience in the same field of your graduation subject, it will be a great addition to your resume. However, work experience matters only if you are applying for a master’s or research programs, what they really consider is your previous academic grades and overall performance. Here are some factors for admission: IELTS 8 is good to get your application accepted in most programs as a minimum is 6.5. Your previous academic record is very important, a minimum GPA of 2.80 is a must. Your 2 years of experience will only matter if you are considering a Ph.D. or Master by research program. SAT score should have at least 980 or an ACT minimum composite score of 18 . Here’s a Quick Guide for Concordia’s admissions:  Concordia focuses on your undergraduate records hoping your academic scores are better than average, considering your IELTS score of 8 and two years of work experience in the same field you will have no issue in getting an offer letter from Concordia University.

Should I go to Concordia University or to Bishop's University (Commerce Bachelor in both)?

YG
Yashmeet Grover Posted On : January 11th, 2021
If you consider these two in terms of Canadian standards then both universities have very reputable business schools. However, Bishops University's William's School of Business is unheard of outside the english-speaking community in Canada. So, if you’re not going to look for work in Canada alone, then you should definitely go for a better known university which has a name outside the country, especially in the states. Plus you’d also need to be well versed in French at some point in Sherbrooke if you do go for Bishop’s. On the other hand if we look at Concordia, its John Molson School of Business is among Canada's top 10 business schools. It has better placement opportunities with its graduates earning 46,000-59,700 CAD on average after completing their studies in a variety of fields. While students from Bishops have regular winners at NIBS worldwide case competitions, it is still a university only prestigious in Canada. But still, its small size may be seen as a plus point for those who need to find a mentor. You will find these small classes more interactive and the professors here are more than happy to help you out whenever you reach out to them. Thus it is safer to go with Concordia which will offer you a brand value as well as great opportunities through its industry connections. Here is a brief comparison of both your options: These are the salary statistics of Concordia University’s undergraduates for the year 2019: While Bishop’s University is old and reputed in Canada, Concordia University has more program options, lower tuition rates, higher international population and international reputation.
