MY EXPERIENCE AT A NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY
The location of our university is a village near sabbavaram, leaving us with very less facilities, like no food delivery through zomato or swiggy.
FEE STRUCTURE AND FACILITIES
With respect to other Government universities, DSNLU is fairly expensive. There are some security deposits which we have to pay during the time of admission. There is a total transparent structure for the fee and the fee is not accepted in cash. ?2,15,000 is the fee.
Previous year 70% of the students got placed, companies like different banks and law firms come for placements
To get to the premier law Universities in the country, one has to give CLAT. So in the hope of getting into a National Law University I gave CLAT. After giving CLAT the results came out adn I was not very happy, my All India Rank was 2391. I did not get admission through a normal list which was released in the CLAT website. But then I waited for vacancies for specific colleges and I got into many other colleges such as - NUSRL Ranchi, MNLU Nagpur, DNLU Jabalpur etc and lastly DSNLU Visakhapatnam which interested me the most, so I took admission into this college.
Yes, it is a compulsion as it is a residential University. There are 4 floors in the boys' hostel and 12 toilets and 12 bathrooms in each floor for around 250 students in total. There is facility of hot water.
Though our alumni base is not strong, informally many of the students including me are in constant touch with the alumni of our university.
The faculty is fairly educated, some of the then are post graduates and some have doctorate. Currently there is a paucity of faculty in our course since many faculty quit due to theirlersonal reasons. The average age of faculty is 30 years. Tentative number of faculty - 40.
Not an exact proprtion but 50:50 gender ratio is there. In fact in our batch there are more girls than boys. Our college is fairly open to each and every sexual orientation. There are no official parties but students do party themselves v often.
COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
As a law student, we tend to study throughout our life, the 5 year integrated course is very practical. It is research driven as 25% of our marks are based on our research paper(project work) We also have a practical learning experience from moot courts and mock trials which mimic the courts of law to teach us research and litigation. There are campus placement organized by the University and most of the students get placed.
There are cultural activities organized by the University and different intra sports competition. There is a national moot court competition organised by our university which is sponsored by The Competition Commission of India and a national level debate competition organised by our university which is sponsored by the Arun Jaitley foundation.
