IARI, New Delhi
Indian Agricultural Research Institute is one of the most premier institutes in India for Agriculture students and many other related fields. The faculty, students, campus are all excellent. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
FEE STRUCTURE AND FACILITIES
The fee for M.Sc students is 75,000 Rupees for the entire course. The fee for M.Sc part 1 is around 43,150 and the fee for M.Sc part 2 is 31,800 rupees. The fee can be paid online and offline both, and is very affordable.
Placement opportunities are excellent. Several firms such as the Central Bank of India, Indian Forest Service, Indian Economic Service seem employees from IARI. For Group B, almost 85% vacancies are filled directly from IARI and its competitive examinations.
The admission is carried out through the department of Examination at ICAR, and a final list is made on the basis of both the scores in the entrance exam and your score in your undergraduate degree. A final merit list is displayed online and offline.
The Hostel services are top-notch. There are around ten hostels on the campus, with several different cuisines available for students in the many different mess halls around the campus. The mess is managed by the students themselves. The Hostel services are almost free. Wifi is also available, although capped at 15gb per month.
The teachers are all very well qualified, and the faculty at large is extremely friendly. The enrolment criteria for the professors are extremely stringent so all the professors have a well-rounded knowledge of the subject.
The gender ratio is quite skewed towards men, as is the case with most colleges in the science stream. Students are mostly focused on studies and are usually cream of the crop. Most of my class consisted of North Indian students, although students from far off places also come here as this is one the best institutes in India.
COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
IARI is one of India's best institutes for Agriculture students. The college follows a trimester system, so the pressure on students is greatly reduced. The curriculum is very well catered to global standards with an emphasis on research. While teachers are good, it also provides a challenging environment for growth and fostering employability.
LOAN/ SCHOLARSHIP PROVISIONS
Scholarship is available on the basis of your performance under the General Open Competition scheme. The decision is made by the Dean on the basis of your prior academic record and subsequent performance in post-graduation(with some leniency for SC/ST/Disabled). M.Sc scholarships come to around Rs. 7,560/-, with a contingent grant of Rs 6000 per academic year towards the cost of books, material, etc.
