I wanted to join a college that provides good ROI and VGSoM has one of the best ROIs in the country if not the best. Apart from this, people with IT background get a good placement as this college is a preferred destination for Analytics enthusiasts. Also, the batch strength at VGSoM is way below New IIMs and other private colleges which helps in the placement process. However, this can be a drawback as the diversity of roles suffer in comparison to a college with a larger batch size. The major drivers for me joining the college was the ROI and a low batch strength.
The course curriculum is quite flexible with many electives on offer. Right from the second semester onwards, students are allowed to choose electives based on their areas of interests. Also, the college offers a micro specialization in Analytics which is its forte, however, finance courses are not generally taken up by students here.
The campus placements are good with multiple offers in multiple domains. The average package is around 17 LPA and the median is around 16 LPA. Many students get placed in consulting and analytics. The course curriculum is also designed in such a way that such offers become feasible to the candidates.
The fee structure is relatively low as compared to other top B-schools. It has a provision for scholarship wherein a student is offered a scholarship based on merit and financial needs. Fees for 2 years is 10.5 lakhs. 1 lakh is charged for SMU international programme which is a great initiative by VGSoM.
The lush green campus is a treat to your eyes. There are multiple clubs to develop your extra-curricular. Since the batch strength is low students get a chance to be a part of multiple clubs and committees. Also, the campus has an extraordinary infrastructure with the National Digital Library being on the campus itself. VGSoM's yearly festival Purvodaya has seen exemplary footfalls over the years.
I had to face an online PI. The questions revolved majorly on my graduation subjects of Electronics Engineering. VGSoM focuses a lot on technical knowledge in the PI rounds and you need to be sound with it. Also, I had read current happenings from around the world to be abreast with what may be asked. I was also asked a few basics of economics questions like GDP, National income etc in my interview.
There were altogether more than 300 companies that visited the campus. Ranging from Sales ad Marketing to consultancy, to finance, to operations to IT and general management. many students had the opportunity of having more than one offer and were asked in a time frame to choose the final company of joining
Every year a number of leading companies visit the campus at IIMC to provide placement opportunities to eligible candidates. The highest Annual CTC recorded in the 2018 batch is INR 80 Lakhs and the average Annual CTC is 28 Lakhs. Not only domestic companies but also international companies participated in the campus selection.
The placement procedure for our batch (2018-20) was held in two stages; one for prior work ex and the second without prior work ex. Massive splendid 498 job offers were made to 444 students in top-layered companies. The highest package at IIM-C in our batch was reported at INR 80 Lakhs and average CTC packages listed at INR 27.8 LPA. Around 150 companies visited the prestigious B-school. There was a policy of 'Wait & Hold' for the students to apply to other companies/firms also. The major recruiting companies were - Google, ITC, Mastercard, HUL, P&G, Capgemini, TATA, Colgate Palmolive, Samsung, Amazon, Microsoft, Paytm, Flipkart, etc.
A total of 498 job offers were made with lucrative CTC packages. These 498 offers were made to 444 students. This proves the astounding placement records of IIM-Calcutta. With the highest CTC package made in the Marketing & Finance sector of Rs. 80 LPA, the average CTC package recorded at Rs. 27.8 LPA in the year 2020 when I passed out. The topmost recruiting companies at IIM-Calcutta in my batch of 2018-20 were Uber, McKinsey & Co., Paytm, Samsung, JP Morgan Chase, Flipkart, Johnson & Johnson, Amazon, Adani, Barclays, KPMG, Citi, Loreal, Hinduja, Google, Mondelez International, ITC, MasterCard, Capgemini, etc.
If I could describe IIM-Calcutta in one word, it would be 'Splendid Placement Opportunities'. The B-School has tie-ups with so many companies that at the end of the MBA program, every student can manage to work in a big company. At the end of my MBA in 2020, the highest package was recorded at around INR 79-80 Lakhs. if an average CTC offered is estimated for about the top 10% of students, it would range about INR 55 lakhs. The average salary packages were somewhere around 28 Lakhs. With such massive job offers, most of the students got placed in the top 50 companies globally. The major companies that visited in 2020 at my time were Samsung, Google, Infosys, Adani, Uber, Flipkart, Microsoft, ICICI Bank, KPMG, Vedanta, Amazon, Aditya Birla, JP Morgan, etc.
There are assured 100% placement guaranteed by our college. But, you will be able to grab it in accordance with your eligibility and credibility. A lot of companies with govt. Limitations and international, multinational companies also gives the opportunity of serving by the end of your 3rd semester.
I took the CAT entrance exam and then, I fill out the form online. After my application was shortlisted, I took the psychometric test and essay writing again. I cleared both of the tests and lastly, I went through a personal interview.
There is a placement cell in our college that works hard to place a number of students and our college has around 100% placement rate. The placement was good in our college and companies like Deloitte, HDFC Bank, Godrej, Airtel, etc. visited our college.
Positive remarks is college is perfect to make any weak student also perfect and best students are always perfect and faculties train each and every students individually and take each student as one and no partiality. Negative remark is there is no hostel so no campus life.
