IIM Kozhikode is arguably the most sought after Indian Institute of Management beyond IIMs A, B, C and L. It is frequently ranked among the top B-Schools in the country and has displayed its pedigree by posting stellar placements year after year. After not getting an opportunity at the older IIMs, I was ecstatic to know that I had gotten selected here. It turned out to be as good as it promised to be!The admission process consists of appearing for CAT, followed by shortlisting on the basis of academic experience and relevant work experience in the past. This is followed by WAT and PI, which are then combined with the aforementioned factors as well as diversity score, in order to offer final admissions.
An MBA degree is more than a salary-booster of sorts (as people like to think of it). It adds essential managerial and leadership skills, which are in great demand in leading MNCs around the world. Having worked in the tech sector, one is also employed with the technical know-how, which comes across as an added advantage. These reasons prompted me to join the course. The student faculty ratio stands at a lowly 6:1. Thus, a great chance for personalized mentoring and learning in your own unique way. The faculty has read and researched at the best B-Schools in India and around the world (especially in Western Europe and the US). The casebook method is widely followed, while pedagogies like seminars, whiteboard teaching, group work and assignments are utilized as well.Trimester exams were organized thrice in a year, with continuous evaluation in between. It was difficult to score well, considering the onslaught of all the extracurricular activities we used to undergo at any given point of time.
The median stipend was 2 lakhs, while the highest stipend offered was 3 lakhs. More than 60% of the recruiters are a part of the Fortune 500 companies, while seven international offers were made. All the domains were represented, with S&M representing the maximum offers. I was able to land a role in operations as an intern at a renowned MNC. This ensured I ended up doing good in my final placements as well.
The average offer provided to our batch stood at 23.08 LPA, while the highest package offered was INR 58 LPA. There were five international offers as well. Domains like S&M, marketing, consultancy, IT & Operations, finance etc. Esteemed MNCs visited the "kampus". Notable brands included HUL, Accenture, Google, ZS, KPMG, Blackrock, JP Morgan Chase, Larsen and Toubro etc.I was extremely overjoyed to have landed a role at an esteemed firm in an operations role. It set my career up exceptionally well and I cannot be more grateful to our alma mater.
The total fees charged for the PGP program at IIM Kozhikode is equivalent to, if not greater than the old IIMs. The total amount is almost 20.5 lakhs, which can be offset to an extent by availing the scholarship scheme which is on the basis of merit and need.Merit Scholarship is awarded to PGP students on the basis of their performance during one academic year, as determined by their CGPA. The number of scholarships awarded is in the ratio of one scholarship for every 20 students in the first and second year.Other scholarships can be availed from various central and state government schemes, along with those provided by corporates.
The annual management fest is called "Backwaters", which hosts the stalwarts of the world of business and entrepreneurship. There are business-centric events like B-Plans and case studies as well, which attract a lot of competition and enthusiasm from students around the country. The annual cultural fest is known as "Echoes", which attracts maestros from the world of entertainment. The college seethes with a sentiment enthused with festiveness and auspiciousness. To add on, the various student-run organizations organize events too, while conducting regular activities that enabled us to develop well-rounded personalities. Various recreational facilities for popular indoor and outdoor sports are available and benefitted from immensely.
The hostels are spacious and clean and have rooms that are equipped with basic amenities like mattress, study chair and table, racks etc., along with common facilities like washrooms, mess, laundry and microwave. We often went into each other's rooms to work jointly, discuss on random topics or just enjoy, which thus led to the best memories we created. The mess was a centre of buzz and enthusiasm, in addition to having nutritious and healthy food. It stayed open during the night as well, in order to facilitate our midnight hunger pangs while we worked on our assignments together. All in all, I look back at those days quite fondly.
After the shortlisting of candidates on the basis of their CAT score, academic performance and work experience, students are invited to attend the WAT/PI. We had the writing ability test followed by the personal interview round, wherein the interviewers were professors and alumni of the "Kampus". They grilled me incessantly and ensured that I was on my toes, metaphorically, throughout the duration. However, I was overjoyed once I was declared selected.

My college is a govt. College first of all. Secondly, it ranked 23rd by NIRF. Also, the highest package recorded is 49 LPA and the top recruiters include Wipro, Capgemini, Deloitte and so forth. Furthermore, the college is also low and these are the reasons due to which I decided to take admission into this college for pursuing MBA .However, to take admission, I applied for it by filling up the application form wherein I filled all the details such as basic details, previous record of academics, and most importantly, the score of CAT exam. Based on my score of CAT exam and marks obtained in undergraduate, 10th and 12th, I got shortlisted for further round where I faced an Interview and lastly, I got offer letter for admission.

The college Head is Mr Dee Cee Ravi, he is also the owner of DC Books. The only problem that I have found is that he is not approachable. Other than that I have got to learn a lot. Every wednesday we had a session with the mentors. That is every 5 students are allotted to a particular mentor (A teaching faculty or a senior management member) we all get to sit together and talk or hearts out about the college and any difficulties that we face. Initially it used to be boring but one we started spending time together, we knew our Mentor is like our God father and he/she will do everything possible to help us out from our troubles. (that includes everything from boyfriend issues, not liking a teacher, not raining enough, feeling bored, what will china do next, family issues, anything) in our college no one could be alone. There were so many groups and clubs and so many things happening one can not escape from not participating. If you are caught from not being a part of anything then you would be the one heading the next one.
The college needs to think nationally if not globally at attracting good talents. The selection process is too simple. The teaching is standard of in house faculty is not that great and needs lots of improvement. The overall attitude towards students need to change. At PG level the students demand respect and freedom, the college should think on these lines rather than using cctvs everwhere, mandatory attendances and many more such things. At last if the student wants to pursue a career in sales and marketing, then only choose the college. Courses like operations and systems are not at all good. But in Marketing the visiting professors are too good and are from LIBA, IIM, XLRI etc.
