IIMA, Ahmedabad
LIVING UP TO THE EXPECTATION
REMARKS
Most of the things about this place are good. The experience that you have here is greater than the sum of the parts. But there are few bad things also like every other college-related to administration.
ENTRANCE PREVIEW
CAT 2015 because it was the only exam through which they took students in the college.
FEE STRUCTURE AND FACILITIES
Total fees for 2 years is around 20 lakhs. The absolute number is big but it's every penny of investment. The brand associated with IIMA is worth 100 times the fees. You can easily avail of loans from banks from inside the campus or any other branch also.
PLACEMENT WING
Almost everyone gets placed. The last batch had a mean package of about 20 lakhs. Those who do not want to join any firm but go for their own startups are also helped via the mavericks program where they are given a monthly stipend of 25000 and an option of deferred placement.
HOSTEL FACILITIES
Hostel facilities are decent enough. New campus hostels are better compared to old campus hostels. But the culture of the old campus is more mingling and close-knit. So there is the trade-off.
ALUMNI
The alumni network is very vast and quite closed knit. Where ever you go, you are bound to find your alums in a good position in the organization.
FACULTY
Some of the faculties are super awesome. You would want to go to their classes even if there is no attendance. Then there are average profs which would teach you perfectly fine but the magic is not there. Then few profs are there for which you would think that how the hell he gets to become a prof.
CAMPUS LIFE
Campus life is what makes IIMA what it is. The vibrancy of life here is something to be lived. The gender ratio is skewed towards males. The ratio is 70:30 in favor of males. Diversity is there but still, 80% of students are from Engg. Background. There are a lot of extracurricular activities going on. You have to prioritize which one to participate in. Competition is tough in almost every field.
EXAM STRUCTURE
Exam structure varies from subject to subject. Few subjects will have a lot of assignments and class participation component. Few exams were a mix of objective and subjective. It varied as per the profs. Many times you would have to submit reports. Only a few exams were traditional in a sense. Rest was quite well balanced to evaluate a student.
COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Quite good. In the first year, all the functional areas are touched upon with slightly more focus on marketing courses. Many courses were very helpful like Ethics, Strategic management, Business Research, etc. Some courses are quite difficult like Decision Analysis and some are easy like Operations management.
INTERNSHIPS OPPORTUNITIES
Yes. Out of 450 almost 250 get internship stipend greater than 1 lakh per month. The majority of students go into consulting, finance, marketing, tech. Many niche companies like Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also came. Everyone gets an internship through college.
COLLEGE EVENTS
The events are a major part of the college. Every day you will have some event or other. There are quizzes, debates, art competitions, case competitions going on a regular basis. Almost all of the clubs present in college organize some event on a monthly basis. Then there is a management fest called Insight & Confluence. The cultural fest is Chaos. FABM people organize Amaethon.
LOAN/ SCHOLARSHIP PROVISIONS
There are many scholarships available which are given on a merit basis. One common scholarship is for everyone having a parent's income less than a certain income.
