Ans. NIT Durgapur is one of the top engineering colleges in India and ranked 46th by NIRF 2019. On the other hand, HBTU or HBTI Kanpur has been ranked 166th by NIRF 2020. HBTI Kanpur is AICTE approved and affiliated to AKTU.  Given below is a comparison of the CSE program offered by NIT Durgapur and HBTI Kanpur.  Categories NIT Durgapur HBTI Kanpur Ranking (NIRF) 46 166 Intake Around 900 Around 617 Course duration 4 years 4 years Fees (1st year) INR 1.49 lakh INR 1.35 lakh Criteria 10+2 in science with 75% marks 10+2 in science with 75% marks Entrance Exam JEE-Main JEE Main/UPSEE JEE Main cutoff for CSE in 2019 17031 14573-24173 Placement Record 85% 75% No. of students placed. 78 53 No. of recruiters 90+ 45 Highest package INR 32.54 LPA INR 37 LPA Average package INR 9.09 LPA INR 6.8 LPA Top Recruiters Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Amazon, CTS, PwC, etc Microsoft, Tata Motors, TCS, IBM, Oyo Rooms, etc The fees of HBTI Kanpur are lower than NIT Durgapur for the CSE course. However, from the placement perspective, NIT Durgapur is better. Most of the companies hire students from NIT’s and IIT’s; hence there is an advantage of pursuing CSE from NIT Durgapur. In this college, too many guest faculty members are provided in every branch. Every time class is taken by the guest faculty. But, the permanent faculty are awesome in their style of teaching. All the permanent faculty have decent qualifications from the best universities and colleges. So, the faculty are pretty good.

In my college, the number of professors is almost good and all are well qualified from great institutes. Most of the classes are taken by the guest facility, who have no good qualifications and knowledge is the bad point, which I observed and this happens many times. Our professors are good. The teaching quality is average. There are no smart classes. The ratio of students to faculty is 5:1. I did not get any industry exposure, actually, in my batch, no one got industry exposure. Industry Visits should also be enhanced in this college.

Teachers are well qualified and knowledgeable and they are qualified from the top most institute like IITs and other best colleges. They are knowledgeable but they lack the knowledge spread to the student. Industrial visits should be improved. Because this is the current need in the field of placement.

I would consider only the teachers in the ME department. Teachers and professors of the ME department are well qualified and almost all of them are Ph.D. holders. Their teaching is based on the old school concept, mostly confined to books only. Course and curriculum are very well structured, but I would say more steps needs to be taken to make it such so that students get industry-ready.

Teachers in college are highly qualified and experienced. They all are helpful in academic activities, and they follow foreign writers' books to teach us. Few teachers have their own written books, and all the teachers are very innovative and experienced. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes the students' industry-ready. Students go for industrial training after 2nd-year and 3rd-year, which provides knowledge about industries for students.

Teachers were not helpful at all neither in academics nor for personal help. There are some old faculty members in the college, and we haven't seen them in our 4 years of college, we have just heard their names. The other staff in the college apart from the faculty were not helpful.

Teachers here were qualified and knowledgeable, but they do not have an interest in teaching, so the quality of teaching was not up to the mark. The course is related to the curriculum, and if you study properly in 4 years, then you'll find it useful in the industry.

Mechanical department has one of the most experienced and well qualified faculty in the college. Almost all the professors are Ph.D. holders. Their teaching method is based on old school which is being affiliated to books and also the curriculum is old which really deprives the students of modern knowledge that is the updations being made in their field of interest. Thus more steps need to be taken to make students ready for industry by improving the labs and thus providing the practical knowledge of modern machines that are being present in the industry.

The teachers have knowledge, they are helpful if you ask them questions in their cabin. But the teaching quality of most of the teacher is bad. The course curriculum is same as in other colleges. They prepared the students through theories. But the lab conditions are the worst here. Only the workshop portion are good. There you can actually experience the industrial work.

Concerning the ME department, all the faculty members and professors are well qualified as they all are PhD holders from IITs. 1st-year has common subjects and are also taught by guest faculty members. They are good but not much appreciable. Starting from the 2nd year, professors are well qualified and knowledgeable. Majority of the professors are still teaching orthodox principles, along with only bookish knowledge to achieve only a degree. However, some professors really change according to the time and really try to provide complete knowledge they could. The course covers all the engineering aspects with sufficient conceptual knowledge. Still, it lags a bit more exposure to industrial kno...
