National Institute of Technology Warangal is a Deemed University, ranked #19 by NIRF for 2020. The college was previously known as the Regional College of Engineering first in the chain of 30 NITs (formerly known as the RECs). It has a sprawling campus fitting 3500+ students including faculty members. Since it is a residential campus, it has 16 residential blocks to provide lodging to 3400+ students, 200 teaching staff and 350+ administrative staff.

Admissions to the B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D programs are granted through national level entrance exams such as JEE, GATE, and (IIT) JAM. For the year 2019, the opening and closing ranks for B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering were 1980 for home state applicants and 826-1554 for applicants from other states. National Institute of Technology Warangal has a dedicated placement cell called the Training and Placement Section.
