Osmania University, established in the year 1918, is a state university located in University Town, Hyderabad. The university has been accredited by the NAAC with an ‘A+’ grade. The main campus of OU is ranked 10th among the state universities by India Today. A number of private and government colleges are functioning under the umbrella of OU. With this, the students can opt from a variety of postgraduate, doctorate, postgraduate diploma, and research courses. It offers both full-time and part-time courses. Admission is done mainly on the basis of a common entrance test namely OUCET conducted by Osmania University. However, for some courses, the university accepts a valid score of national-level competitive exams like GATE and EAMCET.

Osmania University is inviting applications to Post M.Sc Diploma in Radiological Physics. Interested candidates can visit the official website to apply. Last date to apply online is March 20, 2021.

Osmania University has rescheduled the law exam for  LLB (3YDC), LLB (Hon) (3YDC) III and V semesters regular, and BA LLB (5YDC), BBA LLB (5YDC), BCom LLB (5YDC) III, V, VII and IX semester. The exam was previously scheduled from February 3. It has been postponed to start from February 5. According to the official notice, the university had to do this due to the non availability of exam centres to conduct the exam following social distancing guidelines. Osmania University Admission

The University provides courses in different fields, OU Admission Procedure is controlled by DOA (Directorate of Admission).

Admission Procedure:

  • The issue of Notifications: The Directorate of Admissions issues notification for entrance and admission into various P.G. and P.G. Diploma courses during the first week of April every year. The application form needs to be filled only through online mode. The registration fees for a single subject for a general category student is INR 800 and for SC/ST it is INR 600. For every single subject the candidate opts for, the fees is INR 400 for all the categories. 

  • Entrance Examinations: University conducts an entrance examination for various P.G. and P.G.  Diploma courses in the first/second week of June and declares the results along with a rank wise merit list.

  • Counseling: Admissions to P.G. and P.G. Diploma courses offered by various University constituent and affiliated colleges will be made through a centralized counseling process.  The counseling process, in general, commences during the last week of June / first week of July every year.

  • Approval of Admitted Candidates: In the end, the verification of the eligible candidates took place. It approves the list of admitted candidates under Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quota/ Management Quota into M.A., M.Sc., M.B.A., M.C.A., B.Ed., LL.B., LL.M., Hotel  Management, Hospital Management and Pharmacy courses offered by all private affiliating institutions of the Osmania University.

Reservations

Below mentioned are the reservations provided by the University:

  1. Admission to 85% of the available seats in every course is reserved for local candidates in respect of O.U. The remaining 15% of the seats are open to local and non-locals shall be filled up subject to similar reservation as applicable to 85% local candidates
  2. Out of the total number of seats available in each subject/course, 15% for SC and ST, 30% for Backward Class is reserved by the University.
  3. A minimum of 33.33% seats are allotted to women candidates from each category i.e. SC/ST/BC.

Centre For Educational Development Of Minorities It was established in 1994 with the objective of improving the classroom performance of school children and improving the participation and performance of minority candidates in competitive examinations.
English Language Training Centre It was established in 1988, a number of Workshops have been organized on various aspects of English Language Teaching with experts drawn from U.K. and U.S.A.
Physical Education The Department of Physical Education existed since the inception of Arts College to promote indoor and outdoor games.
National Service Scheme (NSS) The NSS Cell conducts Special Camps in 6 (six) districts i.e. Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda and Nizamabad for promoting the welfare of society.

Ques. Is chemical engineering better in BITS or Osmania University?

Ans. BITS Pilani Hyderabad has better recognition than Osmania University in Hyderabad. Being a national level college, that competes for its status among the “Great Indian IITs”, BITS Pilani (and its campuses) is one of the best private colleges in the country. The infrastructure at BPHC is better than Osmania as it is well-equipped and excellently maintained. The placements at BPHC, even for Chemical, are undoubtedly much better, and both, the average and top package values are significantly higher. (I’m not exactly authorized to give the statistics here). Another significant advantage at BITS is extended exposure that you get, and the elective systems also let you develop skills beyond your discipline. The Chemistry faculty at BPHC is excellent are the professors are brilliant in their specific fields of study.
