The institute became Deemed University in 2003 through an MHRD notification and rechristened as PEC University of Technology in 2009. There are 9 academic departments and 2 centers of excellence.

The institute offers 8 Undergraduate B. Tech. Programs and 14 Postgraduate M. Tech. Programs in various disciplines of engineering and technology. After becoming University, it also started a Ph.D. program in various disciplines of engineering, science, management, humanities, and social sciences. The duration of B.Tech is 4 years, M.Tech 2 years and Ph.D. consists of 3 years of duration.
Applicants who wish to apply can submit their applications on the official website of PEC Chandigarh. The basic eligibility for B.Tech is class 12 while for M.Tech applicants should have a graduate degree in relevant stream from a recognized university or institute.
For admission to B.Tech program, applicants need to appear for JEE Main exam. Admission to M.Tech course is done on the basis of valid GATE score. Library: Central Library has a collection of 1,19,830 volumes comprising of books, standards, theses, bound volume of journals pertaining to physical sciences, engineering, and technology, computer and information technology, social sciences and management.
