Latest Updates: IIT Gandhinagar will soon start enrolling students for the B.Tech program as the JEE Advanced results are out now. Admission to the B.Tech program is based on the JEE Advanced exam score, examination for the same was conducted on September 27, 2020. The institute has completed its PG program admissions for the 2020 session and will now begin the application process for the IIT Gandhinagar PG 2021 session. Ph.D. program admissions 2020 at IIT Gandhinagar will begin in the month of November.

Selection Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar will be granted admission on the basis of the following national level entrance examinations:

How to apply?

Students who wish to apply to IIT Gandhinagar may follow the steps given below for the admission process-

  • Application forms are available on jeemain.nta.ic.in in the month of December.
  • Applicants are required to fill in all the necessary details such as name, address, date of birth, and education details accurately.
  • The submission of the form requires an application fee. Retain the payment confirmation and download the admit card when released.
  • Depending on the JEE Mains cut off, candidates are applicable to register for JEE advanced.
  • Applicants are required to fill in all the necessary details such as name, address, date of birth, and education details accurately for the second stage accurately.
  • Following the release of the JEE Advanced results, candidates are required to register for seat allotment and counseling on the official JoSAA website and fill in their choices with respect to the opening and closing rank list released.

IIT Gandhinagar has its own Career Development Services (CDS) which is responsible for the placement, higher studies, and Entrepreneurship opportunities for the students. The institute offers numerous scholarships and also has plenty of scholarships maintained by donors.

  • Institute scholarships- IITG offers four scholarships to UG students over 10 months. The scholarships are distributed over four areas- Academic excellence, Excellence in sports, Excellence in Art and Culture, and Excellence in social work and leadership.
  • Donor scholarships- The institute offers 35 scholarships that amount to 2 lakhs per year and are maintained by donors which include professors and alumni among others. These scholarships are open to all UG students.

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar Facilities

The University offers a plethora of facilities that cater to the needs of students as well as the faculties.

Hostels- IITG has eight centrally air-conditioned hostels that are maintained by student committees. These hostels have a number of conveniences and facilities which include eateries, laundry facilities, student lounge, music room, sports room, and convenience stores.

Mess and Canteens- IITG is the only academic institution to be declared as ‘Eat Right Campus by the FSSAI. All the canteens and eateries on the campus have been given a 5-star rating by the Food Corporation. This includes the special tea store that serves a variety of hot and cold beverages, the AMUL store specializing in dairy products, Nutririch which caters to a variety of juices and milkshakes, and all the grocery stores on the campus.

Clubs- To promote extracurricular activities amongst students, they are encouraged to join cultural clubs that organize different events such as Photography club, Drama club, Dance club, Music club, literary club, Technology clubs, and Film Making club.

Medical facilities- Qualified medical professionals, trained nurses, and physiotherapists are available at the Medical Centre of the campus. The availability of medical supplies and services are maintained throughout the year.

Sports facilities- IITG encourages its students to maintain a healthy fitness regime and has various sports facilities which include a badminton court, tennis court, basketball court, football and cricket grounds, and a fully-equipped gymnasium.

Ans. A student can drop any courses during his/her semester if he/she is finding difficulty with it or the timing of the course is clashing with other courses. In lieu of dropped course(s), he/ she can add any other course(s) which should not clash with other courses (s). There is a period of 8-10 days at the starting of the semester and after the mid-sem exam in which you can avail of this facility.

Ques. What are the differences between regular and elective courses?

Ans. Apart from regular branch courses, a student has to complete 4 HSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) courses, 2 (BS) Basic Science courses, and 4 open electives (which may or may not be related to your branch) during his/her end of B.tech program. One can do a minor in any branch by completing a fixed number of courses. His /her 4 open elective can be counted for a minor degree as well.

In terms of quality of teaching and placement, these colleges outshine the other engineering colleges of the country. According to NIRF Engineering ranking 2020, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar, ICT Mumbai stands at 8th, 24th, and 18th position respectively. Admission: For admission into undergraduate courses at IITs students need to appear for JEE advance exam, on the other hand for ICT Mumbai students need to appear for the JEE mains. The eligibility criteria for IIT is 10+2 with 75% and JEE advance scores. ICT eligibility is 10+2 with 50% aggregate. Total seats for chemical engineering at ICT is 75, whereas there are 40 seats at IIT Hyderabad, and 44 seats at IIT Gandhinagar. The cutoff closing rank for chemical engineering at these institutes are as follows.     Ans. Indian Institute of Technology's (IIT) is among the top Institutions of India. The admissions in all these Institutes are done through national level examinations. Ranking IIT Bombay has secured 4th position in Overall category and third position in 'Engineering' category by NIRF in 2020 IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked 11th among the IITs and 22nd among the engineering colleges by NIRF in 2020.  IIT Indore ranked 10th in the engineering category by NIRF in 2020. IIT Gandhinagar ranked 24th in the engineering category by NIRF in 2020. Admission: Metallurgy Engineering at IIT Bombay The candidate should have passed 10+2 with the Science stream The candidate should have scored at least 75% The selection of the candidate is based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced Electrical Engineering: The process for admission is the same for all the IITs.
