Ques. What are the differences between regular and elective courses?
Ans. Apart from regular branch courses, a student has to complete 4 HSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) courses, 2 (BS) Basic Science courses, and 4 open electives (which may or may not be related to your branch) during his/her end of B.tech program. One can do a minor in any branch by completing a fixed number of courses. His /her 4 open elective can be counted for a minor degree as well.
Ans. IIT Gandhinagar is among the new IITs. So, the placement statistics of this institute are not at par with the old IITs, but still, decent packages are offered. Unlike the UG students, M.Tech students have to rely mostly on core jobs. Due to this, the percentage of students getting placed in M.Tech is relatively less than B.Tech students. For the class of 2019, the average placement package offered was around 6.6 LPA. The average package for B.Tech was higher than this because they had an option to choose non-core jobs as well. And non-core jobs usually pay higher than core jobs. Some companies which offered jobs to the M.Tech students are John Deere, Johnson Controls, Belcan India, Bombardier Transportation, Marvell Semiconductor, Hyundai Motors, RKC Infrabuilt, MCX India, General Electric, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hatch Associates, GIFT and many more. Some M.Tech students also get funded Ph.D. invitations from prestigious institutes on the basis of their research. But as the years are progressing, the placement scenario is also improving here. For the year 2016-2017, the PG median salary was 5.5 LPA. For the year 2017-2018, it was 6 LPA. For the year 2018-2019, it was 6.6 LPA. This shows that placement statistics are improving every year. More companies, PSUs, and Research & Development Organizations are coming to recruit M.Tech students. Read more

Ans. IIT is a brand that is more than 60-70 years old and the reputation of IITs for engineering is unmatched. So, it might not be fair to compare IITs with Techno India University as TIU was established in 2002. The expertise, global exposure and hands-on technical training in IITs are unparalleled. If a student gets an opportunity to study in an IIT, be it anywhere, the IIT tag itself is sufficient to get you noticed by the industry professionals. Techno India University may not be as popular as the IITs, but it is a reputed institution under WBUT. Techno India University is notable for its engineering department. Their school of engineering prepares students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the subject and provides industrial training to enhance the skills of the students. Students involve themselves in workshops, seminars, and interdisciplinary research. Techno India University takes admission for B.Tech courses through WBJEE, JEE Mains, Techno Joint Entrance Examination whereas IITs take admission through JEE Advanced. As a result, there is a huge difference in the student crowd at these institutes. Students from Techno India University may get job opportunities similar to an IIT graduate but unlike the former, the latter has a higher percentage of getting a larger salary package offered to them. Not only in engineering but in other fields too. The top companies visiting IIT during their placement program are Microsoft, Qualcomm, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Adobe, Accenture, Samsung, Google, TATA, ONGC, Strategy and Carin, Goldman Sachs, etc. They offer an average salary package of 10-15 lakhs per annum where Companies visiting Techno India University offer an average salary package of 3.5 lakhs per annum.
