National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur is ranked at 60th in the Engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2019, making it one of the leading technical institutes in India. The university started as a regional engineering college. But in 2002 the university was included in the list of NITs under the National Institute of Technology Act 2007 and was also declared as an Institute of National Importance. The college currently has a student strength of 3,291 including male and female students, as well as a highly qualified faculty of over 220 members with a majority of Ph.D. holders. 

NIT Hamirpur offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programs in Engineering, Science, Humanities and 11 other departments. Admission is done based on entrance examinations such as JEE Mains, GATE, CAT and NET. The institute also offers healthcare, sports, and other facilities to students.   • The NIT Hamirpur Computer Centre provides a computing environment among the students.
  • It has more than 2500 voice & data nodes over the fiber backbone with above 100 active devices, wi-fi, Voice over IP (VoIP) and video conferencing.
  • The students of NIT Hamirpur are provided with 1gbps internet connectivity speed by NKN.
  • There are 185 computing nodes including 15 servers, 50 workstations, 30 thin clients, 70 desktops and 20 mobile terminals installed in the center building of the institute.
  • The health center is the heartbeat of the institute which provides Treatment for different diseases and also provides first aid to the injured persons.

Ans. On the basis of academics, if a college has to be chosen between NIT Surathkal and NIT Hamirpur for a B. Tech civil engineering course, one should look at the different perspectives that are given below. NIT Surathkal: NIRF ranked NIT Surathkal as the 21st best engineering college in 2019. The college has an amazing faculty for civil engineering most of the teachers that are in NITSurathkal have acquired Ph.D. degrees and a minimum teaching average of 2 years. The admission to the BTech Civil program is through JEE Mains. Placements: NIT Surathkal in the academic year of 2019 witnessed a 100% placement percentage. There were around 60 companies present to give jobs to the B. Tech students. A total of 97 students opted for placements for B. Tech civil engineering course, out of which all of them got the placements. Top recruiters that provided jobs include Honeywell, Axis Bank, Myntra Logistics, Amazon, Mcafee, Samsung r&d, HSBC Technology, Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Byjus, City Bank, Oyo, Epsilon India, Wipro India, Walmart, and Snap lab. NIT Goa rose to 87th rank among the best engineering institutes by NIRF 2019. CSE branch from this institute received 100% placements in top MNCs in 2020.  NIT Agartala is ranked 70th in the engineering category by NIRF 2019. The institute provides 100% for CSE branches almost every year.  NIT Hamirpur is ranked 60th rank in the engineering category by NIRF 2019. The placement record for this institute is 75-80% every year.  NIT or MNIT Jaipur ranks 71st in the engineering category by NIRF 2020. It provides 100% placements for CSE branch every year.  NIT Manipur ranks 148th in the engineering category by NIRF 2019.
