Central Institute of Fisheries Education can be called as the national leader on fisheries education in India. Established in 6th June 1961 by Government of India and established with an aim of imparting higher education and research and training opportunities to the in-service fisheries personnel of the country to support the fisheries developmental activities.
The college offers courses under Masters and Research level for different subjects and also provides various types of training programmes ranging from 3-7 days short term programs to 6-12 months long term programs for various client groups as fishers, farmers, entrepreneurs, faculty, industry representatives, students, research scholars, etc.
Admission to both the masters and research programmes is based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the mark scored at the entrance examination conducted by the college for admission.
The institute has an updated version of the technologies for the field of aquaculture, breeding, feed technology, health management, genetics and processing. Their aim is to make the technological tools available to the local people who are a part of fish farmings, entrepreneurs and other developmental agencies.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having degree in Bachelors in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) under 10+2+4 system with at least 60% marks in aggregate. Or Candidate having an equivalent degree with 5 years experience in the state department service .

The intensive training program is conducted by them in different field areas to give a wider experience of the actual conditions of the outer world. Students were trained in a way through working in different laboratories and under different scientific conditions, so that they can get a better exposure and understanding of the aquatic world that exists underwater.
