Ans. The average salary package of a CSE graduate from IIT Bombay is around 20 lakh per annum. Notably, the CSE branch is among the highest recruited branch each year with 100 percent placement rate. Top recruiters who visited the campus included Goldman Sachs, IBM, Qualcomm, Tata Steel, EC Japan, Microsoft, Rubrik. Also reputed organizations like DRDO and ISRO visits the campus for recruiting students of CSE. The above-mentioned figures are Cost to Company (CTC) which indicates the total amount of expense the employer spends on the employee. The CTC includes signing bonuses, performance bonuses, etc. which inflates the actual figure. So, the basic pay is less than the CTC mentioned. The CTC offered to you can also include “other benefits” which include medical, periodicals, meal vouchers, and vehicle-related expenses. Also, the overall average CTC offered to a CSE graduate at IIT Bombay varies from company to company. However, the average salary (basic pay) offered by renowned companies recruiting students of CSE at IIT Bombay is around 18 LPA.  Read more

Ans. IIT is a brand that is more than 60-70 years old and the reputation of IITs for engineering is unmatched. So, it might not be fair to compare IITs with Techno India University as TIU was established in 2002. The expertise, global exposure and hands-on technical training in IITs are unparalleled. If a student gets an opportunity to study in an IIT, be it anywhere, the IIT tag itself is sufficient to get you noticed by the industry professionals.  Techno India University may not be as popular as the IITs, but it is a reputed institution under WBUT. Techno India University is notable for its engineering department. Their school of engineering prepares students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the subject and provides industrial training to enhance the skills of the students. Students involve themselves in workshops, seminars, and interdisciplinary research.  Techno India University takes admission for B.Tech courses through WBJEE, JEE Mains, Techno Joint Entrance Examination whereas IITs take admission through JEE Advanced. As a result, there is a huge difference in the student crowd at these institutes. Students from Techno India University may get job opportunities similar to an IIT graduate but unlike the former, the latter has a higher percentage of getting a larger salary package offered to them. Not only in engineering but in other fields too. The top companies visiting IIT during their placement program are Microsoft, Qualcomm, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Adobe, Accenture, Samsung, Google, TATA, ONGC, Strategy and Carin, Goldman Sachs, etc. They offer an average salary package of 10-15 lakhs per annum where Companies visiting Techno India University offer an average salary package of 3.5 lakhs per annum. Some companies taking part in the placement process are Byjus, Wipro, TCS, Infosys, IBM, etc. The total fee in IIT is around 9,50,000 and that of Techno India University is 3,56,800 for a BTech. course.   Read more

Ans. The Department of  Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay focuses on research and education for the development of sustainable energy systems for the future. The department offers M.Tech in Energy System Engineering with a duration of 2 years. The institute takes admission to the M.Tech Energy System Engineering program based on the performance of the candidate in GATE. For 2019 the GATE cutoff for Energy System Engineering was 750 (General). The first-year course fee for the program is INR 32,000. According to the placement statistics of 2019, a total of 402 students from M.Tech courses got placements. The average CTC offered was around INR 14.11 LPA. IIT Bhubaneswar offers MTech in Power System Engineering. The M.Tech program in Power System Engineering focuses on power systems, power electronics, renewable and distributed energy systems, control and optimization, etc. The intake of the students into the program is done through GATE and the expected GATE cutoff in 2020 for Power System Engineering is 495-505 (general category). The 1st year course fee is 2.34 lakhs. In 2019, 70% of the PG students got placements in many top MNCs with average CTC 11.4 LPA. MNCs like Deloitte, TCS, Capgemini, Goldman Sachs, etc. have participated in the placement drive. Energy science from IIT Bombay and Power System Engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar are two entirely different branches which makes it difficult to decide which program is best. You should choose according to the branch you are interested in.  Read more

Ans. There are a total of 17 hostels for boys and girls at the IIT Bombay campus. Most of the rooms have a double occupancy while there are some single ones too. Basics amenities like bed, study tables, cupboards, chairs are provided. The rooms are semi-furnished. Usually, all the first-year students from all academic programs (UG and PG) are allotted to the same hostels. There are various facilities available such as the internet, indoor games, private mess, etc. The rooms allotted to freshers are quite nice and spacious with all the required facilities. However, rooms in the old hostels are congested.  H1-H9- These hostels have double occupancy rooms. The rooms are small and just adequate for two people. H10-H11- These are girls hostels and the rooms are similar to that of H1. H12-H13- These hostels have 2 types of rooms. One type of rooms are spacious with a petition and 4 in build slabs (2 on either side of the petition) serving as bad. The rest of the rooms are single rooms. H14- This hostel has only single rooms. The furniture is movable.  H15-16- These hostels are allotted to the freshers. The room are double occupancy and large.  Read more

The best thing about IIT Bombay was the liberty and exposure it provided to the students. Right from academics and research to a plethora of extra curricular activities. It allowed you to pursue careers in fields one could not even think of before joining college. I have friends from college, who today are pursuing research as PhD students and at some very good core companies and at the same time some are among very good athletes & actors. Also, in spite of a gender ratio of 10:1, you can always find boys and girls working together towards common interests.

Space is constraint. More multi storey hostels like 100 floors are needed. Also trees and wildlife need to be protected, lake needs to be protect. Over last 20 years, vegetation has considerably reduced lake land has been encroached. MTech dropouts are an issue, top gate rankers leave college after getting psu jobs leaving seat void. Current size of my batch is 50%, govt made law but it was reversed.
