Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936. It is one of the premier institutes in India which offers education in the field of Social Science, Public Policy, Human Development, and Economics. The Institute, at its Mumbai campus, offers Postgraduate (MA) and Research (M.Phil-Ph.D.) courses.
TISS begins the admission process for Master’s programs at its Mumbai campus by the end of November each year. The admission process for Research programs begins in the month of January. The application process is online and a candidate can access the application form from the institute’s official website. The academic year usually starts by the end of May and beginning of June.

The institute offers Integrated M.Phil.-Ph.D. and Direct Ph.D. programs in various disciplines at its Tuljapur, Hyderabad & Guwahati campuses. Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. is a full-time program.
The application process for the research programs begins in the month of January. The entrance exam for research programs is conducted in the month of February. TISS offers MA, MPH, MHA, LL.M. M.Sc & M.Li.Sc courses in various specializations. There is a single entrance examination (TISSNET) for admission to all the PG courses offered under 12 schools of TISS. On the basis of marks scored in TISS NET, candidates are then called for a Written Test and Personal Interview. Based on performance in these tests, the institute prepares the final list for admission.

TISS PG Selection Criteria: TISSNET will consist of MCQs related to GK, Analytical Ability, Logical Reasoning & English Proficiency. There will be no negative marking in TISS NET. Final admission is offered on the basis of candidates’ performance in the following aspects:

TISS, Mumbai also offers BA (Hons.) in Social Science at its Tuljapur, Guwahati & Hyderabad campuses. Tuljapur campus also offers BA (Hons.) in Social Work (Rural Development). Students have to qualify in TISS-BAT to secure admission.
TISS BA Application Process: Students can apply online for TISS BA through E-application process. Fill the application form and submit the application fee of INR 1025 (INR 275 for SC/ST/ OBC (NC)) by Credit/ Debit Card or through Net-Banking. The application fee can also be paid in cash through Challan.
In case of fee submission through Challan, the students have to download the challan followed by submission at any branch of SBI. The bank will return two copies of challan, i.e, TISS Copy & Student Copy. The students have to scan the TISS copy of Challan, log in again to the Online Application System & Upload it.

TISS BA Selection Procedure: TISS BAT will consist 100 questions for the duration of 90 minutes. Part A will be of 60 minutes duration for 60 marks with MCQs related to Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning & General Awareness while Part B will be a Written Test (two descriptive questions) for the duration of 30 minutes for 40 marks. Final selection will be done by evaluating candidates’ performance in both Part A & Part B tests. TISS BAT is a computer-Based Test (CBT).
