Ans. Studying in any IIT is more or less similar to some extent, irrespective of whether it is old or new. IIT Bhubaneswar is an IIT of both elite facilities and miseries. The table below shows some characteristics of the institute. NIRF ’20 Rank 22 Average salary offered ?15.8 Lakh per annum B.Tech Fees (Total) ?8.6 Lakh IIT Bhubaneswar, though having a lot of similarities with other IITs, has its major difference in the on-campus activities: We didn't have enough facilities inside the campus. The absence of the so-called IIT-crowd is a shortcoming. Though we had some excellent professors and a good-rated accommodation, they came along with critical issues with the management. Speaking about placements, it is quite good in most departments. Students from our batch had a lot of complaints regarding the management. A lot of pressure in organizational functionalities and lack of institute’s support has been a problem faced by a good number of current candidates. Our seniors have complained about hypocrisy, poor study-life balance, and have regretted even though they made it to an IIT. We have complained about giving in a lot of effort for the institute’s welfare and getting nothing in return. Comparison with other new IITs IIT Bhubaneswar is not better than all other new IITs. Most IIT professors have a similar format of teaching, some are excellent, some are good, and some average: A difference is observed in the experience of professors of older IITs. The main difference between IITs is campus life, which matters to the surrounding society, students, and institutional systems. Most old IITs and some new IITs have very powerful and encouraging technical and cultural societies that help in the overall growth, while IIT Bhubaneswar still lacks it to some extent. At present, all the new IITs are nearly at the same rate of progress. For instance, IIT Gandhinagar candidates have experienced a better pace and are standing some steps ahead with respect to other new IITs, but those are still developing. We came across the fact that all new IITs are more or less the same in respect to development and innovation, with slight differences from each other. So, the overall review of IIT Bhubaneswar would be not so great in certain scenarios, but still, being an IITian is considered to be valuable for the career.Read more
Ans. IIT Bhubaneswar, a comparative newer IIT, is still considered to be among one of the top engineering colleges across the country. As IITians, candidates grow among the best minds in the country and have a lot of potential in respect of innovation and research. The institutes have never failed to provide them with more than what they have expected. Every passing year, standards keep increasing. Technically the institutes make sure that they fulfill the requirements of the demands as per the current education system. The following table shows a brief overview of the institute NIRF ’20 Rank 22 Average salary offered ?15.8 Lakh per annum B.Tech Fees (Total) ?8.6 Lakh Being an IIT, our batch witnessed and experienced quite major shortcomings which are discussed below: The current batch has a lot of complaints regarding the flawed internal policies and systems. Students lack moral support and only outstanding students are looked after in IIT BS. In our batch, it became quite inconvenient for the students who found it difficult to try their hands in skill-handling. The pressure of the curriculum is such that we would automatically think of ourselves as robots. If the tasks are not completed on time, the students have to go through a lot of indecisiveness. The administration is quite clueless about decision-making which caused our batch a lot of trouble. We also had complaints about not providing us with enough facilities for innovative works and researches and problems with placement related issues. Our batch also complained of too much pressure in the curriculum and some level of hypocrisy in the management. IIT-BS affected the psychology of a lot of students from my batch. The environment to study there is not the best. Seniors often say that it is not a place for making engineers but robots. They have shared experiences where the institute clearly tried to develop students overnight by pressurizing them. Needless to say, most of us went there for the valuable IIT Tag. The institute would definitely fetch you a great job. If you want a happy learning experience, you must always opt for some other institute and not IIT BS.Read more
Ans. Firstly, it is important to keep in mind that old IIT institutes are highly esteemed. On the other hand, new IITs are also rapidly growing and have overtaken some of the old campuses. So, it is important to not avoid an institute just because it has a fairly new IIT campus. From the given list, IIT Patna was developed 10 years ago and has quickly become a highly accomplished institute in such a short span of time. Keeping the other institutes in mind, here is a brief description about IIT Patna and what it has to offer within the CSE department. Ranking: Being an institute of national importance, IIT Patna has an overall ranking of 58 by NIRF 2020 and has been ranked at 41 by QS World Ranking. It is ranked at 22 for its programs in Engineering by NIRF. Computer Science Department: It has a well-established CSE department that covers a good combination of theory and practical subjects. About 14 students from the department were part of the Google Summer of Code (GSoc), which is the highest number of students from the new IIT’s. Students also get to participate in the interdisciplinary teams such as BAJA and ROBOCON that helps students in gaining exposure and provides them with a learning platform to discover and launch projects. Faculty: The faculty members are highly academic and provide students with the best learning experience by solving all their queries and paying individual attention to students. Student Life: For students from the CSE department, they are given a chance to participate in the ACM-ICPC which is also called the Olympics of Coding on an international platform, where students from IIT Patna secured 72nd rank in the world and were amongst the top 3 in Indian institutes. The student club organizes multiple events like web development workshops and coding competitions in order to improve knowledge and skills in their field of study.
