Indian Institute of Technology or IIT Ropar is one of the eight IITs set up by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in the year 2008. IIT Ropar offers a wide variety of programs to the eligible students. IIT Ropar admission is done on the basis of marks scored in entrance examinations. The B.Tech program is offered in various branches at IIT Ropar. The admission to the B.Tech program is done on the basis of the JEE Advanced score. JEE Advanced helps students to get admission in Bachelor’s, Integrated or Bachelor-Master dual degree in Engineering. To appear in the JEE Advanced, the candidates must have a valid score in JEE Main.
The admission to the M.Tech program is based on the score in the Bachelor’s degree in appropriate branch with a valid GATE score.
The M.Sc program is offered in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The applicants must have scored minimum 55% marks in the Graduation in relevant branch and a valid JAM score to apply for the M.Sc program.
The Research program is offered in two branches namely, Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The applicant must possess the Bachelor’s degree with minimum 60% marks in the appropriate branch with a valid GATE score.
Note: The candidates holding a B.Tech degree of IITs with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 are eligible to apply without GATE score.
The Ph.D. program is offered in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Biomedical Engineering. The IIT Ropar Ph.D. admission is based on the minimum marks scored in the Bachelor’s degree. The candidates who have qualified GATE and UGC/CSIR-NET are given preference.
Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL): 27% of seats in every program.
Scheduled Caste (SC): 15% of seats in every program.
Scheduled Tribe (ST): 7.5 of seats in every program.
Persons with Disability (PwD): 5% of seats in every category (Open, SC, ST and OBC) seats.
The IIT Ropar scholarships are offered to the students on the basis of marks scored in the JEE, GATE examinations.
Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)
The PMRF scheme awards fellowship to the students who have completed or pursuing undergraduate or integrated M.Tech/M.Sc (a 5-year program) in Science and Technology from IITs/IISc/NITs etc. The candidate should have required academic qualification to apply.
The IIT Ropar placement cell is efficiently working in placing students in reputed companies. The placement process consists of five steps which range from sending invitations to companies to shortlisting of the candidate for the interview.
