Ans. Below given are a few pointers which will help you determine the better choice. Civil Engineering Cut off in BITS Pilani is 269 which is to be scored in their BITSAT admission test. On the other hand, IIT Bhubaneswar’s cut off is 6546-13803 in JEE Main BITS Pilani is a popular institution and can be compared with IIT Bombay, Delhi or Kanpur but IIT Bhubaneswar which falls under the category of newer IITs is not as popular as BITS Pilani. Being a private institute, BITS Pilani has a higher course fee that is around 16 lakh. Whereas IIT Bhubaneswar is a Govt. institute and the course fee is much lesser than BITS Pilani, 8 lakhs(approx.). BITS Pilani provides an average placement package of 12 lakhs for a civil engineer but a graduate of IIT Bhubaneswar of the same stream gets an average package of 10 lakhs. The Engineering department of BITS Pilani ranks 4 by India Today, 5 in Outlook India, and 7 in The Week. The Engineering Department of IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 9 by India Today, 24 in Outlook, and 15 in The Week. BITS Pilani will be a better choice to study core engineering than in IIT Bhubaneswar due to the former's popularity among recruiters. A University should be chosen according to the students admission test scores, JEE rank, and also financial situation. Read more
Ans. The cutoff for BITS- HD is not fixed. It changes on a yearly basis depending on the difficulty level of the question paper. Both BITS Pilani and Hyderabad campus considers GATE scores too for admission. This makes the cutoff unpredictable since most of the top students can take admission through Gate leaving some space for BITS HD score. However, the previous year’s cutoff was 150 by 300 in civil structural engineering that could be considered a safe test score but depends completely on the competition of that year. The table below shows the cutoff of the last five years for Civil Engineering in BITS HD. Year Cutoff 2019 269 2018 274 2017 294 2016 314 2015 312 Last year the cut off for 150 but that will not remain fixed since it will change again in the coming next year. That depends completely upon the competition and the competitors. In the year 2018 BITS decided to take admission based upon the GATE scores as well as the BITS HD exam. So, it is hard to predict how many marks you should score to secure admission to the Civil Structure branch at BITS campuses.Read more
Ans. BITS Pilani, ranked 30th by NIRF amongst top engineering colleges in India, is also considered to be the best private institution. While IIT Dharwad was recently established and hasn’t been ranked yet by NIRF. Category IIT Dharwad BITS Pilani Total Fee Per Year 8.8 lacs 15.6 lacs Entrance Mode JEE Advanced BITSAT Curriculum – IIT Dharwad Since it is a new college, it is mentored by old colleges like IIT-K, IIT-M and students are even taught by SWAYAM courses offered by professors from the old IITs. Along with theoretical knowledge, practical coding sessions and hackathons are regularly organised to encourage students to develop an excellent grasp at programming. BITS The faculty-student ratio is 1:35. The MSc degree is provided in Economics, though the total duration is 4 years. It is a combination of bachelor’s program too, so in the first 4-5 semesters, curriculum is followed as in BSc programme by UGC. Loan/ Scholarship programs At BITS Pilani, students who score 6.0 or more CGPA, they are awarded MCN scholarship by the college. At IIT Dharwad, scholarship is offered to students whose family income is less than 5 lakhs per annum. Placements BITS Pilani Average placement rate is around 75% Highest CTC received is 15 LPA Average salary package bagged by students is 7-8 LPA Top recruiters include DE Shaw, Flipkart, Accenture, IIT Dharwad Average placement rate for CSE was around 80% Highest offer bagged was 15 LPA Average salary package received was in the range 6-8 LPA In 2019, average stipend received was 30,000 Top recruiters were Nasdaq, Adobe, TCS, Infosys, etc. amongst 20+ other companies The choice is up to the individual as the options under discussion are contrasting. One is a BTech degree in CS, which is the most sought after skill-set and attracts lucrative offers, presenting a myriad of opportunities. While the other is integrated Msc in Economics, which more or less would restrict one in a certain domain.Read more
Ans. The integrated degree program at IIITM Gwalior offers two formats; B.Tech + MBA and B.Tech + M.Tech. While most students might not go for the dual degree, it does offer an advantage over other degrees in the following terms: Students can save one year of master’s degree as integrated programs are of 5 years. Students also get the opportunity to opt for other courses that might not be available in mainstream B.Tech programs. Students can decide on their masters after the third year; about if they want to pursue an MBA or M.Tech. In this choice, IIITM Gwalior is more famous for its M.tech degree rather than an MBA. It also gives students an extra year to prepare for further exams like GSoC, ICPC, and TGMC. Students are also allowed to participate in intense and advanced research projects which add value to their portfolio. One potential drawback could be that an integrated program does not grant you a specific specialization. Students are only awarded an M.Tech degree. However, this factor does not affect placements and dual degree alumni get the same placement offers as mainstream master’s degree students do. The student-faculty ratio in the dual degree program is also high which allows students to get personalized attention by the best research faculty on the campus. BITS Pilani also offers integrated dual degree courses, but the specialization is dependent on the overall performance of the students. Students are given CS or M.Sc Bio depending on their performance in the first year of the integrated program. While M.Sc. Bio has a completely different course structure than CS, it does open several different opportunities for a career in foreign countries. The Biology department at BITS Pilani is relatively reputed for its famous slogan ‘Biology at BITS is taught in a way where you’ll not have to memorize.’ For students who wish to pursue only CS for their integrated degree, it is important to know that getting CS in master’s has a ratio of 1:5 as compared to all other courses. While purely CS students might not be looking at Bio for their Master’s, an M.Sc. in Bio from BITS is highly reputed and prompts students to go for unconventional career options. In the end, it completely depends on the student, if they wish to pursue an integrated degree at IIITM Gwalior or BITS Pilani. However, students need to do their ground research on the modalities and course structure of these courses that are offered.Read more

Ans. BITS Pilani HD exam is easier than the GATE exam. Given below are some of the facts about the BITS Pilani HD examination. Scoring Sections: For CS and SS, the syllabus is almost the same as that of the GATE. But there are few problems in the BITS HD exam that are from the Implementation side. You do not have to do much calculation for the questions. If you prepared well for GATE, the steam related questions will be easy to solve. You should try to score efficiently in the first paper. Sections such as C Programming and English, are scoring. If you are not comfortable with Physics, try and avoid questions from the subject. Focus more on questions related to basic mathematics. Try to solve and score well in these areas. In mathematics, most questions come from Probability and Complex numbers. So, do not skip these chapters. Important Tips: Sometimes, the exam is quite tricky. Most of the questions in the examination test your knowledge of theory. The syllabus of the examination is more than GATE. Complete the syllabus thoroughly. The questions are not numeric but it checks the logical reasoning of the student in the Technical areas. It is easier than GATE but it is important to note that it may not be easy than the exams conducted by other private institutions. Primarily, there will be a lot of questions to be solved in less time duration. The student should acquire basic concepts and practice small calculations. With proper and efficient preparation for GATE, one can easily qualify BITS Pilani HD examination.Read more
